The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Accountant (m/f/d) based in Germany.

As an Accountant, you will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the accounting operations of German entities within an international software group. You will oversee day-to-day accounting activities, contribute to month-end and year-end closing processes, and ensure compliance with German accounting standards and tax regulations. Working closely with the finance team, external tax advisors, and payroll providers, you will help deliver reliable financial reporting and maintain strong internal controls. You will also contribute to budgeting, variance analysis, and financial performance monitoring to support informed business decisions. This fully remote opportunity offers a hands-on environment where you can improve existing processes, bring structure to financial operations, and take ownership of meaningful responsibilities. It is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented accounting professional seeking to grow within an international, entrepreneurial, and collaborative team.

Accountabilities:

  • Manage day-to-day accounting activities for German legal entities, ensuring accurate, complete, and timely financial records.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing procedures, including journal entries, accounting adjustments, and financial analysis.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and support the review of account balances to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Follow up with vendors regarding missing invoices, prepare cost accruals, and contribute to profit and loss (P&L) reviews.
  • Process supplier payments and bank transfers, ensuring that the appropriate approvals and internal procedures are followed.
  • Reconcile intercompany transactions and investigate discrepancies to maintain consistent financial records across entities.
  • Prepare German VAT filings, including Umsatzsteuervoranmeldung and Zusammenfassende Meldung, and support payroll tax declarations (Lohnsteuer-Anmeldung) in collaboration with external payroll providers and tax advisors.
  • Assist with the preparation of annual financial statements in accordance with German Commercial Code (HGB) requirements, as well as statutory audits and tax filings.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal financial controls, accounting procedures, and compliance practices.
  • Review and improve existing accounting processes, resolve outstanding items, clean up historical ledger discrepancies, and establish more efficient financial workflows.
  • Prepare financial KPIs and management reports, validating data accuracy and consistency before submission.
  • Support monthly variance analysis by comparing actual results against budgets and forecasts, investigating discrepancies, and providing relevant insights.
  • Collaborate with the wider finance team on daily accounting operations, reporting activities, process improvements, and special projects.
  • At least 3 years of professional accounting experience, including hands-on responsibility for German accounting practices under HGB and German tax requirements.
  • Experience in the software, technology, or Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) industry.
  • Solid understanding of accrual accounting, financial reconciliations, journal entries, closing procedures, and financial reporting.
  • Practical knowledge of German VAT requirements and familiarity with payroll tax declarations and statutory reporting obligations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, with the ability to work confidently with financial data and accounting reports.
  • Experience with NetSuite or similar accounting and enterprise resource planning systems is an advantage.
  • Experience managing multiple legal entities or multi-currency accounting is a plus.
  • A professional qualification in accounting, bookkeeping, or a related discipline is desirable.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and reliability, with a commitment to maintaining high standards in financial documentation and reporting.
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset and willingness to resolve historical accounting issues, organize incomplete records, and improve existing processes.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities effectively, and take ownership of responsibilities in a fully remote environment.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, including the ability to collaborate proactively with colleagues, external advisors, and service providers across remote teams.
  • Curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to learn new systems, expand responsibilities, and develop professionally over time.
  • Fluency in both German and English, written and spoken.
  • Residence in Europe and legal authorization to work in the country of residence. Being based in or near Berlin is an advantage.
  • Fully remote working arrangement: Work remotely from an eligible location within Europe.
  • International working environment: Collaborate with finance professionals and stakeholders across an international software group.
  • Entrepreneurial team culture: Benefit from a hands-on environment that encourages ownership, initiative, and practical problem-solving.
  • Professional development: Expand your accounting expertise and gain exposure to international financial operations, reporting, and process improvement.
  • Meaningful responsibilities: Take ownership of day-to-day accounting activities and contribute directly to the accuracy and efficiency of financial operations.
  • Career growth opportunities: Develop your skills and take on additional responsibilities as you gain experience.
  • Collaborative finance team: Work closely with finance colleagues, external tax advisors, and payroll providers.
  • Organizational stability: Enjoy the opportunity to work within an established international group while retaining the benefits of an agile, entrepreneurial team.
  • Competitive compensation: Salary and any additional financial benefits to be confirmed during the recruitment process.
  • Additional benefits: Healthcare coverage, paid leave, pension contributions, equipment allowances, and other employment benefits are subject to the applicable employment terms and should be confirmed with the hiring company.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
