The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Backend Engineer based in Spain.

Join a small, ambitious product team building technology that helps hundreds of thousands of users better understand and manage their finances. You’ll play a key role in developing the central API and backend services that power data, calculations, and core product experiences. The role is primarily focused on Node.js and TypeScript, with a strong emphasis on API design, data modeling, performance, and developer experience. You’ll take ownership of backend systems as products in their own right, ensuring they remain intuitive, reliable, scalable, and fast. Your work will span both scaling established products and rapidly validating new ideas through MVPs and experiments. You’ll collaborate closely with frontend, design, and product colleagues in a fully remote, asynchronous, and flexible environment. This is an opportunity to have substantial technical ownership while helping shape both the engineering foundations and the future direction of a growing product.

Accountabilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain the central API and backend services, primarily using Node.js and TypeScript.
  • Build fast, efficient services that reliably deliver data and calculations while providing an excellent developer experience for client developers.
  • Design intuitive APIs and elegant data models that abstract complexity for internal developers and end users.
  • Scale backend systems and infrastructure supporting existing products while maintaining reliability, performance, and maintainability.
  • Help develop and validate new products, services, and ideas through rapid MVPs and technical experimentation.
  • Treat the internal API as a product, taking ownership of its stability, usability, performance, and continued evolution.
  • Debug and resolve production issues across the technology stack, staying close to the product and ensuring a robust technical foundation.
  • Continuously improve engineering standards, tooling, development processes, and technical practices.
  • Build scalable solutions that consistently meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Work closely with frontend, design, and product teams to deliver projects ranging from focused improvements to large-scale initiatives.
  • Take end-to-end ownership of projects, coordinating across technologies, services, and stakeholders to ensure successful delivery.
  • Several years of professional experience developing large-scale, scalable APIs and backend systems.
  • Strong passion for API design, with the ability to think clearly about interfaces, architecture, and well-structured data models.
  • Deep expertise in Node.js and TypeScript.
  • Strong experience with databases and data technologies such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, ClickHouse, Redis, or Kafka.
  • High standards for stability, developer experience, performance, and code quality.
  • Demonstrated ability to take end-to-end ownership of projects and deliver results across different technologies, services, and teams.
  • Strong proactive communication skills in both German and English, with the ability to communicate clearly and precisely in a remote and partially asynchronous environment.
  • Comfortable working in a small team where individual contributions have a significant impact on the product and its users.
  • Nice to have: Experience working with financial, stock market, or cryptocurrency data.
  • Nice to have: Experience with LLMs and AI agents, particularly when processing large volumes of data.
  • Nice to have: Experience building backend systems for complex data dashboards and visualization products.
  • Competitive salary: €60,000–€90,000 fixed annual salary.
  • Equity participation: VSOP opportunity, allowing employees to participate in the company’s long-term value creation.
  • Profit sharing: Employee participation in company profits.
  • Fully remote: Work from anywhere in Europe.
  • Flexible working: A 100% remote, asynchronous, and flexible working environment designed to support different lifestyles and schedules.
  • Full-time employment: 40 hours per week.
  • Work-life balance: Flexibility to organize your working hours and location around your life while delivering high-quality work.
  • Meaningful impact: Contribute to a product used by hundreds of thousands of people and help create tools that support better financial decision-making.
  • Technical ownership: Significant autonomy and responsibility in shaping backend architecture, APIs, engineering standards, and processes.
  • Learning and experimentation: Opportunity to test ideas, build MVPs, learn from data, and continuously improve both products and engineering practices.
  • Collaborative environment: Work closely with colleagues across engineering, frontend, design, and product in a small, highly autonomous team.
  • Flexible start: Earliest possible start date.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

Do you really apply for me?

Yes, on the employer's own form, the hardest ones included. Where a question needs you, you answer it right there and AI suggests the best answer. Don't want us applying from our IP addresses? Use our Chrome extension: we apply straight from your own browser.

Is it a subscription?
