This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director of Engineering based in Brazil.

This is a senior engineering leadership opportunity for a technology leader who enjoys building exceptional teams while remaining close to complex technical challenges. You’ll report directly to the CEO and shape the engineering strategy as the organization scales its products, teams, and infrastructure. The role combines organizational leadership with hands-on involvement in architecture, technical decisions, and critical initiatives. You’ll guide engineering managers and senior engineers while establishing processes that improve execution, reliability, and technical excellence. The environment is fast-moving, international, entrepreneurial, and highly collaborative. Your work will directly influence the scalability of AI-powered products used by millions of people worldwide.

Accountabilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop engineering managers and senior engineers across multiple teams, fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous growth.
  • Partner directly with executive leadership to define engineering strategy, priorities, technical direction, and execution plans.
  • Drive technical excellence across software architecture, scalability, reliability, security, quality, and development practices.
  • Own engineering execution and delivery, ensuring teams consistently produce high-quality products within agreed timelines.
  • Build and continuously improve engineering processes, standards, operating practices, and team structures as the organization grows.
  • Remain hands-on when needed, contributing to architecture, technical decisions, complex problem-solving, and critical engineering initiatives.
  • Identify and address technical risks, bottlenecks, and opportunities for improving engineering performance.
  • Foster a culture centered on ownership, technical excellence, collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with Product, Design, and business leaders to balance customer, product, commercial, and technical priorities.
  • Support the development and scaling of cloud-based, SaaS, API-driven, real-time, and AI-powered products.
  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience in engineering leadership roles.
  • Proven ability to lead engineering organizations and develop engineering managers and senior technical talent.
  • Strong hands-on experience designing, building, and scaling SaaS, cloud-based, or API-driven products.
  • Deep understanding of software architecture, scalability, reliability, security, distributed systems, and modern engineering practices.
  • Ability and willingness to dive into technical details, architecture, and complex engineering problems when required.
  • Demonstrated track record of improving engineering execution, processes, team structures, and overall performance.
  • Strong business and product judgment, with the ability to balance technical investments against business and customer priorities.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, mentoring, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Experience collaborating with distributed or international engineering teams.
  • Fluent English, both written and spoken.
  • Familiarity with modern technologies such as Node.js, TypeScript, Golang, GraphQL, REST, WebSockets, AWS, serverless architectures, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis, and Cloudflare is valuable.
  • Experience with AI, Generative AI, LLMs, or AI-powered products is a strong advantage.
  • Startup or scale-up experience, particularly in environments experiencing rapid organizational and technical growth, is preferred.
  • Experience with high-scale web applications, real-time systems, enterprise customers, and globally distributed teams is a plus.
