You will identify, develop, and secure relationships with hospitals, health systems, large outpatient practices, and other high-value referral sources. The role combines market expansion, relationship management, data-driven strategy, and hands-on outreach to increase referral volume and long-term growth. You will serve as a key external representative, communicating the organization’s clinical model, mission, and differentiators to professional partners. Working closely with admissions, marketing, alumni, and account management teams, you will help ensure aligned growth strategies and a seamless experience for clients and referral partners. You will use market insights, referral trends, and performance data to refine your approach and demonstrate progress against business objectives. This is a highly visible, travel-oriented opportunity for a relationship builder who thrives on creating partnerships and expanding a regional presence.

Accountabilities:

  • Develop and execute targeted business development strategies to establish and grow partnerships with hospitals, health systems, large outpatient practices, and other strategic referral sources.
  • Identify new business opportunities and cultivate relationships that expand regional presence and increase referral volume.
  • Build and maintain a strong network of external healthcare and professional stakeholders across the assigned territory.
  • Serve as a trusted representative and spokesperson, clearly communicating the organization’s mission, clinical model, services, and differentiators.
  • Represent the organization at conferences, industry events, networking opportunities, and other relevant professional gatherings.
  • Develop market penetration strategies and execute outreach initiatives aligned with broader growth objectives.
  • Use data and referral trends to evaluate business development performance, identify opportunities, and optimize partnership strategies.
  • Collaborate with admissions, marketing, alumni, and account management teams to coordinate growth initiatives and maintain consistent messaging.
  • Maintain accurate records of outreach activity and performance metrics in Salesforce.
  • Manage the territory budget responsibly and monitor performance against key performance indicators.
  • Build partnerships that support long-term business growth while maintaining a high standard of service for referral sources and clients.
  • Uphold organizational values and contribute to a culture centered on compassion, authenticity, accountability, and high-quality care.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support regional growth and partnership objectives.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
  • 3–7 years of relevant experience in business development, strategic partnerships, or sales within healthcare, behavioral health, or a related industry.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare referral networks, market dynamics, and payer landscapes.
  • Proven ability to establish, nurture, and grow relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Strong business development and consultative sales capabilities, with the ability to identify opportunities and build sustainable partnerships.
  • Demonstrated ability to use data and analytics to evaluate performance and inform business development strategy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to present information and respond effectively to questions from leadership, staff, patients, referral partners, and the public.
  • Strong customer service skills, attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or comparable productivity tools.
  • Salesforce experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Comfortable traveling regularly throughout the assigned territory and maintaining a strong regional presence.
  • Ability to work for extended periods at a desk and on a computer.
  • Annual salary range of $100,000–$140,000.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Paid time off.
  • Dedicated self-care days.
  • 401(k) plan.
  • Continuing education and professional development opportunities.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
  • Supportive, mission-driven work culture focused on authenticity, connection, compassion, and integrity.
  • Opportunity to build high-impact healthcare partnerships and contribute to regional growth.
  • Remote corporate work structure with regular travel throughout the San Diego County region.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
