The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Engineering Manager - Foundations & Enablement based in Netherlands.

This remote leadership role offers the opportunity to lead a cross-functional engineering team responsible for the foundations that enable other teams to move quickly, securely, and consistently. You will own the team’s people development, performance, delivery, and technical roadmap while balancing requests from multiple product teams. The role spans developer experience, CI/CD, security practices, tooling, and shared platform capabilities. You will work across both frontend and backend disciplines and partner closely with Infrastructure on shared platform concerns. Success in this position requires strong technical judgment, clear prioritization, and the ability to communicate trade-offs across teams. In a globally distributed environment, you will help create scalable engineering practices while supporting a culture of coaching, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead and support a cross-functional engineering team, focusing on delivery, people development, team performance, and continuous process improvement.
  • Balance the team's technical roadmap with prioritized requests from multiple product teams, clearly communicating priorities, dependencies, and trade-offs.
  • Maintain and evolve engineering-wide standards covering security, tooling, CI/CD, developer experience, and shared engineering practices.
  • Partner closely with the Infrastructure team on shared platform concerns while maintaining clear ownership boundaries and responsibilities.
  • Mentor engineers in their professional development and promote a culture of active coaching and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Support engineers with technical decision-making while ensuring delivery processes remain effective and commitments are met.
  • Establish delivery estimates, monitor progress, identify risks, and help the team remove blockers and resolve obstacles.
  • Own recruitment, hiring, and onboarding activities to strengthen and grow the engineering team.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, establish goals, evaluate performance, and provide continuous feedback.
  • Foster strong documentation, knowledge sharing, and open communication across the broader engineering organization.
  • Promote empathy, openness, and inclusion while contributing to a positive culture within a diverse, globally distributed workforce.
  • Continuously improve engineering processes and ways of working in a remote-first environment.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in advanced software development, including 2+ years of engineering leadership experience.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Comfortable leading engineers across both frontend and backend disciplines, with sufficient technical breadth to support a mixed-discipline team.
  • Hands-on understanding of scalability, reliability, observability, and security principles, with the credibility to establish standards used by other engineering teams.
  • Experience owning or leading platform, DevOps, security, developer tooling, or similar engineering initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, best practices, and problem-solving, with the ability to guide senior and staff-level engineers.
  • Familiarity with testing strategies and CI/CD pipelines, with a focus on maintainability, reliability, and code quality.
  • Working knowledge of incident response practices and operational reliability.
  • Proven ability to lead teams through execution, resolve blockers, and ensure delivery commitments are met.
  • Strong communication, organizational, prioritization, and stakeholder management skills, including experience negotiating competing priorities across teams.
  • Confident, detail-oriented, and motivated to contribute to organizational growth within a high-performing engineering environment.
  • Demonstrated AI literacy, with the ability to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, and work quality while applying sound judgment and critical thinking.
  • Monthly remote work stipend covering home internet and electricity costs.
  • Home office equipment package, including a laptop, keyboard, monitor, and other essential equipment.
  • Home office equipment upgrades or membership to a local co-working space after onboarding.
  • Sick leave benefits, parental leave, 25 days of annual leave, and local national holidays.
  • Personal development fund for courses, books, conferences, and professional materials.
  • Annual international team-building trip plus quarterly and monthly online team gatherings.
  • Flexible working schedules designed to support work-life balance.
  • Fully remote working environment with an international and collaborative team.
  • Opportunities to contribute to a growing organization and participate in professional and community initiatives.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
