As a Fractional Product Manager, you will help shape the commercialization of an AI-powered software platform transforming renewable energy project development. You will also help determine where AI, automation, data, and intelligence can create meaningful advantages for renewable energy developers. Working in an early-stage environment, you will establish disciplined product practices while maintaining the speed and flexibility required to move from proof of concept to paying customers. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced renewable energy product leader who enjoys ambiguity, ownership, and building products from the ground up.
Accountabilities:
- Own and continuously refine the product roadmap, translating business vision and customer insights into clear priorities.
- Define MVPs and prioritize capabilities based on customer value, strategic importance, technical feasibility, and time to market.
- Establish a structured product development process to support the transition from proof of concept to commercialization.
- Maintain clear prioritization between essential capabilities, near-term enhancements, and longer-term opportunities.
- Work directly with renewable energy developers to understand their workflows, pain points, technology needs, and buying priorities.
- Lead customer interviews, proof-of-concept demonstrations, and product feedback sessions, turning insights into actionable product requirements.
- Identify opportunities where AI can meaningfully improve renewable energy development workflows.
- Work with engineering and AI teams to define AI-powered workflows, agents, predictions, recommendations, and automation.
- Help prioritize the development of renewable energy knowledge models, data architecture, and intelligence capabilities.
- Establish appropriate approaches to AI evaluation, accuracy, human review, and customer trust.
- Create clear product requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, specifications, and development increments.
- Participate in sprint planning, product reviews, demonstrations, and other agile development activities.
- Make timely decisions when requirements, priorities, or technical approaches are unclear.
- Ensure products are validated against real-world renewable energy development workflows.
- Serve as the primary bridge between customers, founders, domain experts, design, engineering, and sales.
- Partner with renewable energy advisors to translate industry expertise into practical software requirements.
- Work with sales and customer-facing teams to ensure product priorities support real commercial opportunities.
- Communicate product priorities, tradeoffs, capabilities, and limitations clearly to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Establish measurable product-market-fit indicators and customer success criteria.
- Build a product roadmap that supports the transition from proof of concept to commercially viable products and paying customers.
- Approximately 10 years of product management experience within the renewable energy industry, preferably involving tools or platforms used by renewable energy developers or independent power producers.
- Significant experience in renewable energy project development, including areas such as project sizing, interconnection queues, power flow studies, PVsyst, PVCase, ArcGIS, financial modeling, proposals, RFPs, and supplier bids.
- Proven product management experience, ideally including meaningful experience with B2B SaaS or enterprise software.
- Experience taking products from concept or MVP through commercialization.
- Strong track record of working directly with customers and translating complex problems into valuable product solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with software engineering and technical teams.
- Strong understanding of product discovery, prioritization, roadmapping, requirements definition, and agile development.
- Experience working in early-stage environments with limited resources and significant ambiguity.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to align founders, customers, engineers, domain experts, and commercial stakeholders.
- Highly analytical approach with strong judgment and prioritization skills.
- Willingness to remain highly hands-on across strategy, discovery, requirements, execution, and customer engagement.
- Strong customer focus and ability to distinguish genuine product needs from individual feature requests.
- Technically curious and comfortable working with AI-powered products and emerging technologies.
- Experience building AI/ML-powered products, particularly generative AI or agentic applications, is strongly preferred.
- Experience with enterprise workflow software, data platforms, knowledge graphs, or document intelligence is a plus.
- Experience in energy, renewable energy, infrastructure, engineering, construction, or another complex technical industry is valuable.
- Experience working at an early-stage startup and commercializing products with enterprise customers is preferred.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
- Fully remote position within the United States.
- Fractional contract engagement of approximately 15–20 hours per week.
- Hourly compensation of $100–$135 USD, depending on experience, qualifications, location, and market considerations.
- Opportunity to shape an emerging category of AI-powered software for renewable energy development.
- Direct collaboration with founders, engineering teams, renewable energy experts, customers, and advisors.
- Significant influence over product strategy, roadmap, AI capabilities, and commercialization priorities.
- Opportunity to work on complex renewable energy workflows spanning development, data, engineering, permitting, interconnection, and financial analysis.
- Contract professionals may be eligible for relevant benefits provided through partner agencies.
