The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Lead Content Designer based in United States.

This role offers the opportunity to shape clear, accessible, and engaging digital content for a major Australian Government employment services program. You will design and improve participant-facing content that helps people understand their obligations, navigate services, and access employment and training support. Working across web and notification channels, you will combine UX writing, content design, research, and communication expertise to improve the overall user experience. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in an agile environment, working closely with policy, service delivery, product, and digital stakeholders. The role also involves advising senior leaders, managing multiple content projects, and mentoring less experienced colleagues.

Accountabilities:

  • Design, plan, write, review, and maintain clear, accessible, user-focused digital content across websites and notification channels.
  • Develop content that responds to user needs while aligning with relevant policies, style guides, content patterns, and digital standards.
  • Apply UX writing, web writing, communication writing, and content design principles to improve participant experiences.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams in an agile project environment to develop requirements, features, and content solutions.
  • Use evidence, analytics, user research, and other insights to evaluate and improve content and user experience.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels, providing clear advice and consultation on content design.
  • Participate in workshops, planning sessions, and other collaborative activities to define requirements and develop effective content approaches.
  • Prepare documents, presentations, talking points, and other materials for stakeholders and senior leaders.
  • Manage multiple content projects simultaneously, tracking progress, communicating updates, identifying risks, solving problems, and meeting deadlines.
  • Support channel leads and senior leadership while mentoring less experienced content professionals and contributing to team capability.
  • Contribute to content across websites, mobile applications, digital assistants, and email, SMS, and mobile notifications.
  • Help improve information architecture, content structures, and digital experiences across authenticated and public-facing environments.
  • Demonstrated professional experience writing, editing, structuring, and maintaining complex digital content that effectively meets user needs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, consultation, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proven experience as a web writer or content designer producing written content for websites and digital services.
  • Strong understanding of accessibility and digital content standards, including WCAG 2.1, the Australian Government Style Manual, and Digital Service Standards.
  • Experience providing expert content design advice to management and senior executives.
  • Ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary and distributed teams.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, risks, deadlines, and multiple content initiatives.
  • Experience using content production and analysis tools such as GatherContent, Google Analytics, or Google Search Console is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of HTML is desirable.
  • Experience developing information architecture and content structures that improve usability and user experience is an advantage.
  • Experience with system-related communications and applying a strategic communications approach to content is desirable.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in communications or a related field are desirable.
  • Additional qualifications or training in writing, content design, online accessibility, or UX design are advantageous.
  • Ability to obtain Baseline security clearance is required.
  • Contract through 30 June 2027, with potential for extension depending on requirements.
  • Estimated start date of 1 December 2026.
  • Hourly rate of $100–$120, including superannuation.
  • Hybrid work-from-home arrangements, with remote working considered on a case-by-case basis according to business requirements.
  • Opportunity to work as part of a high-performing virtual content team.
  • Meaningful opportunity to improve digital services supporting millions of Australians.
  • Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams across policy, service delivery, technology, and digital channels.
  • Opportunities to contribute to major service reforms and enhancements across employment and workforce programs.
  • Professional environment with opportunities to provide strategic advice, influence content practices, and mentor colleagues.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
