This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Publications and Scientific Communications Lead based in Brazil.
Lead publication strategy and scientific communications across a portfolio of products and disease areas. This role combines strategic planning, scientific writing, project leadership, and cross-functional collaboration. You will guide the development of manuscripts, congress abstracts, posters, presentations, and other scientific materials. The position involves close collaboration with medical affairs, drug development, drug discovery, external authors, and scientific partners. You will also oversee external agencies and freelancers while ensuring projects meet quality, compliance, and publication standards. Success requires strong scientific judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and urgent timelines. The role offers the opportunity to influence how clinical and scientific evidence is communicated to professional audiences.
Accountabilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of publication strategies and plans for portfolio assets and products.
- Develop high-quality scientific publications supporting products, assets, and disease education initiatives.
- Contribute to the development of disease and product scientific platforms, statements, and related communication strategies.
- Collaborate with internal teams across Medical Affairs, Drug Development, and Drug Discovery to develop publication content based on clinical and scientific studies.
- Lead discussions with external authors, collaborators, and scientific stakeholders throughout the publication development process.
- Manage external agencies and freelance contributors supporting writing, editing, formatting, and submission of manuscripts and conference materials.
- Coordinate publication reviews with authors, reviewers, and external contributors, ensuring feedback is incorporated appropriately.
- Write, edit, and format primary manuscripts, congress abstracts, slide presentations, posters, and other scientific materials as required.
- Track publication milestones, project status, drafts, author feedback, and internal reviews and approvals using appropriate publication management systems.
- Manage publication budgets, timelines, milestones, and project deliverables.
- Ensure publication activities follow established authorship guidelines, good publication practices, and applicable internal policies and procedures.
- Contribute to the maintenance and implementation of departmental publication policies and processes.
- Advanced degree in a scientific discipline, such as a PhD or PharmD.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience within the pharmaceutical industry, medical communications, or a consulting organization, preferably in publication management or senior-level scientific content review.
- Strong scientific and medical writing experience is essential.
- Demonstrated ability to lead publication strategies, publication plans, and the development of scientific platforms.
- Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to plan, prioritize, coordinate, and execute multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong understanding of the clinical development process, particularly clinical study data and outcome measures.
- Ability to critically evaluate and apply information from medical and scientific literature.
- High level of attention to detail, scientific rigor, and quality.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership and cross-functional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to drive priorities and maintain alignment across multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to communicate complex medical and scientific information clearly and contribute to broader medical strategy.
- Comfortable working independently while also collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to respond effectively to urgent timelines and shifting priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with publication planning and implementation tools, literature search indexes, journal databases, and related scientific software.
- Experience in oncology and/or dermatology is a plus.
- Willingness to travel occasionally, with travel expected to be less than 10% of working time, primarily for scientific conferences in the United States and Europe.
