The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Database Consultant, MySQL based in India.

This is a senior technical consulting role supporting mission-critical database and application infrastructure for a diverse portfolio of customers. You will design, implement, administer, and optimize MySQL database environments with a strong focus on reliability, performance, security, and recoverability. The role combines deep database expertise with modern cloud infrastructure, automation, and software engineering practices. You will work within a globally distributed team, partnering directly with customers to troubleshoot complex environments and recommend practical improvements. Beyond technical delivery, you will contribute to incident management, process optimization, presales activities, and the development of internal tools and standards. The position also offers opportunities to mentor consultants, share technical knowledge, and contribute to professional training and industry-facing initiatives. This role is ideal for an experienced database or reliability professional who thrives in a consultative, fast-paced, and continuously evolving technology environment.

Accountabilities

  • Coordinate, analyze, design, implement, and administer database solutions, including database server configuration, maintenance, and optimization.
  • Assess customer infrastructure and operational processes, recommending best practices that improve database availability, performance, uptime, and recoverability.
  • Administer backup procedures and disaster recovery plans while proactively monitoring environments, responding to alerts, and troubleshooting operational issues.
  • Oversee backup, clustering, mirroring, replication, failover, restoration, and recovery of corrupted databases.
  • Develop and review technical action plans covering maintenance, deployments, upgrades, and other database lifecycle activities, ensuring complete and accurate client documentation.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of customer environments, including operational notes, warnings, handovers, procedures, and other relevant information.
  • Support incident management, problem management, and problem resolution activities, while implementing changes, service requests, and complex technical procedures.
  • Prepare customer status and incident reports, respond to technical requests, and maintain alignment with established operating and change-control procedures.
  • Monitor service delivery against agreed customer requirements and proactively raise concerns around workload, timelines, or resource pacing.
  • Maintain customer-specific technical and physical assets securely and in accordance with established procedures.
  • Lead team maintenance activities, including handovers, documentation, process acknowledgements, and incident reviews.
  • Improve internal tools and processes by designing monitoring checks, enhancing DBA toolkits, and contributing to performance reviews, audits, and other operational improvements.
  • Participate in presales activities, proposal preparation, technical calls, and other customer-facing business development initiatives.
  • Contribute to technical content, presentations, conferences, user groups, and other activities that strengthen the broader professional profile of the organization.
  • Mentor and train Database Consultants, support new team members through buddy programs, and contribute to the preparation and delivery of technical training.
  • 7+ years of overall experience in a Database Reliability Engineer (DBRE), Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), or production Database Administrator (DBA) role.
  • Strong senior-level expertise in production database environments, with the ability to manage complex reliability, performance, and recovery challenges independently.
  • Strong proficiency in Object-Oriented Programming using Python or Go, including practical experience with the Django framework for tooling or application development.
  • Hands-on experience designing, deploying, and managing scalable infrastructure on AWS.
  • Deep understanding of automation principles, with strong experience using Terraform, Bash scripting, and Unix/Linux system administration.
  • Practical experience with modern infrastructure and database tooling, including Docker, GKE, Vault, ProxySQL, and GitLab for CI/CD.
  • Strong understanding of database reliability practices, including replication, clustering, failover, backup, disaster recovery, restoration, and performance optimization.
  • Exceptional client-facing and consultative skills, with the ability to manage expectations, navigate competing priorities, and serve as a trusted technical advisor.
  • Systematic and analytical approach to troubleshooting, with the ability to identify root causes, hidden patterns, and underlying issues in complex distributed environments.
  • Proactive mindset focused on continuous optimization, process improvement, system performance, and architectural enhancements.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex database and infrastructure concepts into clear recommendations for technical and business audiences.
  • Strong collaboration, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing abilities within globally distributed teams.
  • Comfortable working independently while maintaining high standards of documentation, reliability, responsiveness, and customer service.
  • Competitive total rewards package.
  • Fully remote work from home with no daily office commute requirement.
  • Flexible work environment supported by a stable internet connection.
  • Substantial training allowance for developing existing skills, learning new technologies, and pursuing certifications.
  • Professional development days and opportunities to participate in industry training.
  • Laptop provided with a choice of operating system.
  • Annual budget to personalize and improve your home workspace.
  • Annual wellness budget that can be used for fitness, gym memberships, massages, and other wellness activities.
  • Generous paid vacation and sick days.
  • Paid day off for volunteering with a charity of your choice.
  • Opportunity to collaborate with experienced technology professionals in a globally distributed environment.
  • Exposure to complex database, cloud, automation, and reliability projects across diverse customer environments.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
