The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer based in South Africa.

As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, scaling, and maintaining secure, resilient, and highly available cloud infrastructure that supports a global payments ecosystem. You will collaborate closely with engineering teams to build efficient CI/CD pipelines, strengthen Infrastructure-as-Code practices, and streamline software delivery. The role focuses on improving platform reliability, observability, security, and automation across the entire development lifecycle. You will help create scalable developer tools and self-service capabilities that enable teams to work independently and deliver with confidence. Working in a distributed, international environment, you will contribute to operational excellence and technical innovation. This is an opportunity to shape cloud infrastructure supporting the evolution of digital payments and modern financial services.

Accountabilities:

  • Design, deploy, and maintain secure, scalable, and resilient multi-region cloud infrastructure using modern cloud technologies and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices.
  • Build, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines to enable reliable, repeatable, and automated software deployments across multiple environments.
  • Implement and improve monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting solutions to strengthen observability, maximize service availability, and accelerate incident resolution.
  • Integrate DevSecOps practices throughout the software delivery lifecycle, including automated security checks, compliance controls, access management, and secrets management.
  • Develop and maintain internal developer platforms, automation frameworks, and self-service tools that improve engineering productivity and streamline service deployment and management.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to establish infrastructure standards, improve system performance, and promote operational excellence.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers, encourage automation-first practices, and contribute to continuous improvement across the platform.
  • Participate in an out-of-hours on-call rotation to support service reliability and respond to operational incidents when required.
  • Extensive experience in DevOps, cloud engineering, or platform engineering, with a proven track record of building, operating, and scaling production infrastructure, ideally on AWS.
  • Strong expertise in Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform or AWS CloudFormation, with experience managing complex environments at scale.
  • Hands-on production experience with Docker and Kubernetes, including Amazon EKS or equivalent container orchestration platforms.
  • Proven ability to design, implement, and optimize CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions or Argo CD.
  • Practical experience with observability and monitoring technologies, including Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or OpenSearch.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills using Python, Bash, Go, or comparable languages.
  • Solid understanding of cloud security fundamentals, network architecture, including VPCs, firewalls, and load balancers, identity and access management, permission segregation, and secrets management.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across distributed engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated technical ownership, a proactive approach to continuous improvement, and the ability to mentor colleagues and influence engineering best practices.
  • Willingness to participate in an out-of-hours on-call rotation.
  • Experience in regulated environments, payments, financial technology, or cryptocurrency and blockchain infrastructure is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted developer workflows and automation tools is a plus.
  • Fair and competitive compensation based on experience, skills, and relevant certifications.
  • Flexible working hours and a hybrid-friendly approach to remote work.
  • Flexible holiday arrangements to support work-life balance.
  • Opportunities to travel to international offices and collaborate with colleagues around the world.
  • A collaborative, open, and creative working environment that encourages innovation, professional growth, and knowledge sharing.
  • The opportunity to contribute to the development of infrastructure supporting emerging financial technologies and global digital payments.
  • An inclusive, growth-oriented culture that values diverse perspectives and encourages candidates who meet most, but not necessarily all, of the requirements to apply.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
