The posting
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Power Systems Engineer based in Canada.
This role offers the opportunity to help shape the next generation of a modern, secure, and resilient power grid. You will lead advanced power system modeling and dynamic studies for inverter-based resources across complex energy projects. The position combines deep electrical engineering expertise with sophisticated simulation, compliance assessment, and technical reporting. You will work with industry-standard tools to evaluate system performance, stability, protection, and grid interconnection requirements. Your work will directly support the reliable integration of renewable and emerging energy technologies into the bulk power system. The role provides exposure to evolving ISO and NERC requirements within an innovative, technically driven engineering environment. You will also have opportunities to leverage Python, AI, and automation to improve engineering quality, productivity, and innovation.
Accountabilities:
- Perform detailed bulk power system dynamic studies using specialized power system software, including PSCAD and PSS®E, to evaluate system behavior and performance.
- Conduct inverter-based resource modeling across steady-state, short-circuit, and dynamic applications, supporting both initial design and as-built model validation.
- Perform technical compliance assessments covering IBR facility ratings, protection coordination, ride-through capabilities, and other applicable grid requirements.
- Conduct modeling and compliance studies in accordance with ISO-specific requirements and applicable NERC reliability standards, including requirements such as IEEE 2800 and NERC MOD-026-2.
- Prepare clear, accurate, and comprehensive technical reports documenting study methodologies, findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Take ownership of assigned projects from planning through completion, ensuring deliverables meet established quality, schedule, and budget objectives.
- Identify technical or training needs and communicate them to engineering leadership to support continued team development and technical excellence.
- Responsibly leverage AI and automation tools to streamline engineering workflows, improve productivity, strengthen quality, and support innovative approaches to power system analysis.
- Contribute to additional engineering initiatives and responsibilities as needed within a collaborative technical environment.
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, with a specialization or strong academic emphasis in power systems.
- 5+ years of professional experience working as a power systems engineer, with substantial experience in bulk power system analysis and modeling.
- Demonstrated experience with ERCOT Model Quality Test or an equivalent modeling validation process, as well as familiarity with IEEE 2800 and NERC MOD-026-2.
- Strong experience performing power system impact studies, including steady-state, short-circuit, and dynamic stability analysis.
- Hands-on proficiency with power system simulation software such as PSCAD and PSS®E.
- Experience programming or automating engineering workflows using Python, with the ability to develop practical tools that improve analytical efficiency.
- Experience using AI and automation tools responsibly to enhance engineering quality, productivity, and innovation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex technical results and translate them into actionable engineering conclusions.
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality reports and collaborate effectively with engineering stakeholders.
- Strong ownership, organization, and attention to detail, with the ability to manage project priorities while meeting quality, schedule, and budget expectations.
- Comprehensive health and wellness benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage with 100% premium coverage for employees.
- Generous paid time off and paid holidays.
- Employee ownership opportunities through a MyShare Employee Ownership Program.
- 401(k) retirement plan with a contribution match of up to 4%, with employees fully vested from day one.
- Fully remote work opportunity within Canada or the United States.
- Occasional travel, expected to be 10% or less.
- Opportunities to work alongside experienced industry leaders on complex power and energy projects.
- Exposure to advanced grid modeling, renewable energy integration, and emerging energy technologies.
- An innovative engineering environment focused on building a modern, secure, and resilient energy system.
- Opportunities to apply AI, automation, and advanced analytical techniques to real-world engineering challenges.
