This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer - Credit Commercial Engineering based in Canada.
This is an opportunity to build reliable, high-performance software within a modern financial technology environment. You will contribute to scalable systems handling large volumes of financial data and complex compliance requirements. The role combines hands-on software development with opportunities to influence technical design and engineering practices. You will work across backend services, cloud infrastructure, and web technologies while solving challenging production issues. Collaboration with product stakeholders and engineering partners will help ensure technical decisions translate into meaningful customer value. This is a remote role available to candidates located in Ontario or British Columbia.
Accountabilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain high-performance software solutions for large-scale, high-volume financial applications.
- Take ownership of defined features and components while contributing to broader quarterly engineering objectives and product milestones.
- Lead technical design for medium-sized components and features and contribute to the architecture of larger initiatives.
- Develop software and infrastructure that enable reliable, repeatable, and efficient releases through automation and improved engineering workflows.
- Investigate, debug, and resolve critical production issues across services, application layers, and infrastructure.
- Partner with product stakeholders and cross-functional teams to understand customer needs and translate them into practical technical solutions.
- Analyze complex data, identify patterns, and document technical information clearly for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Review existing designs and technology decisions, making thoughtful adjustments when business or technical requirements evolve.
- Contribute to a collaborative engineering culture by sharing knowledge, providing feedback, and helping teammates grow.
- 5+ years of professional software development experience, ideally working with Java, service-oriented architectures, and cloud computing environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot.
- Experience with frontend technologies such as React or Next.js, along with solid knowledge of HTML and CSS.
- Experience with Kubernetes and/or Docker and familiarity with modern cloud-native development practices; AWS experience is preferred.
- Strong understanding of scalable distributed systems, common design patterns, and core computer science principles.
- Experience with OAuth 2.0, JWTs, user session management, and secure application development.
- Proven experience designing, building, testing, and maintaining web and mobile applications.
- Ability to produce clean, maintainable, well-documented code supported by thorough testing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, including the capacity to understand existing architectures and make appropriate technical improvements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions and trade-offs clearly.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional, collaborative teams and deliver projects successfully.
- Humility, empathy, openness to constructive feedback, and a genuine interest in continuous learning and helping others develop.
- Experience in payments or fintech, big-data analytics platforms such as Snowflake, or stream-processing architectures is considered an asset.
- Contributions to technical blogs, public GitHub repositories, or open-source projects are also valued.
- Competitive annual base salary of CAD $116,000–$145,000, adjusted based on skills, experience, and working location.
