Join a collaborative technology team developing innovative software solutions that modernize the property and casualty insurance claims experience. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will help evolve a scalable claims platform connecting customers, insurance carriers, vendors, and external partners. You will build intuitive self-service experiences that simplify claim reporting, photo submissions, and customer interactions. You will also develop robust integrations and workflows connecting insurance providers with repair shops, appraisers, salvage partners, and other service providers. Working across the full claims lifecycle, you will contribute to appraisal, estimating, and total loss capabilities while ensuring reliable system performance. This role offers the opportunity to solve complex engineering challenges in a cloud-based, Agile environment using modern technologies. If you are passionate about high-quality software, backend engineering, and creating meaningful customer experiences, this is an opportunity to make a measurable impact.

Accountabilities

  • Software Development: Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable full-stack web applications that support customer self-service, claims processing, and vendor management workflows.
  • API Design and Integrations: Build reliable APIs and integrations that connect insurance carriers with repair facilities, appraisers, salvage partners, and other third-party service providers.
  • Backend Engineering: Develop efficient server-side applications, optimize database schemas and queries, and address performance and scalability challenges across the claims platform.
  • Customer Experience: Build and enhance digital experiences for claim initiation, online reporting, photo capture, and other customer-facing capabilities throughout the claims lifecycle.
  • Claims Platform Innovation: Contribute to the development of estimating, appraisal, and total loss functionality, ensuring the platform supports evolving business and partner requirements.
  • Technical Quality: Apply sound engineering practices, write maintainable code, and contribute to testing, troubleshooting, code reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Agile Collaboration: Work closely with engineers and cross-functional stakeholders to plan sprint activities, prioritize work, deliver projects, and support multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay current with emerging technologies, share knowledge with teammates, and contribute ideas that improve the reliability, usability, and scalability of the platform.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related STEM discipline.
  • Professional Experience: At least 5 years of full-stack web development experience, with particular strength in backend engineering.
  • Backend Development: Demonstrated experience designing and building APIs, developing server-side applications, and creating efficient schemas and queries for relational databases.
  • Scalability and Performance: Understanding of application architecture, server-side performance optimization, and the challenges involved in building reliable, scalable software systems.
  • Frontend Technologies: Experience with React and/or TypeScript is an advantage.
  • Framework Knowledge: Familiarity with Ruby on Rails is preferred.
  • Technical Environment: The platform uses Ruby on Rails, React, MySQL, S3, Redis, Elasticsearch, RabbitMQ, AWS Lambda, Docker, and CloudFront. Experience with these or comparable technologies is beneficial.
  • Agile Delivery: Ability to contribute effectively to sprint planning, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality work across multiple initiatives.
  • Collaboration and Communication: A team-oriented mindset, strong problem-solving skills, willingness to learn, and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.
  • Quality and Ownership: A commitment to engineering excellence, continuous improvement, and developing technology solutions that deliver measurable business and customer value.
  • Annual base salary: $135,000–$165,000, depending on experience, skills, and location.
  • Medical insurance: Two medical plan options through Blue Cross Blue Shield, with an employer HSA contribution when enrolled in the high-deductible health plan.
  • Dental and vision coverage: Two dental plan options and one vision plan.
  • Life and disability insurance: Company-paid short-term disability, long-term disability, and life insurance.
  • Additional protection: Optional accident insurance, hospital indemnity, critical illness coverage, and legal assistance.
  • Retirement savings: 401(k) plan with a 4% company match.
  • Mental health support: Employee Assistance Program offering six sessions per life incident.
  • Paid time off: Flexible PTO and 7.5 company-observed holidays.
  • Professional development: Opportunities for career growth, continued learning, and meaningful technical ownership.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
