The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior State Government Affairs Manager based in United States.

As a Senior State Government Affairs Manager, you will lead government affairs strategy across assigned states in the Southeast, helping shape policies that influence business growth and infrastructure development. You will build trusted, bipartisan relationships with governors’ offices, legislators, regulatory stakeholders, economic development agencies, and advocacy organizations. The role combines policy analysis, legislative engagement, coalition building, and strategic execution with a strong focus on business outcomes. You will monitor developments affecting data centers, AI infrastructure, energy, taxation, and economic development, translating complex policy issues into practical recommendations. Working cross-functionally with commercial, legal, communications, and operations teams, you will help align government affairs priorities with broader organizational objectives. This is a highly visible role for a commercially minded professional who thrives in a fast-moving environment and enjoys turning policy opportunities into meaningful growth. The position is remote from Texas and requires frequent travel across state capitals, key markets, and industry events throughout the Southeast.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead legislative and political engagement across assigned Southeast states, advancing government affairs priorities and supporting business growth.
  • Develop and execute state-specific engagement strategies that identify key stakeholders, anticipate emerging issues, establish milestones, and define practical courses of action and escalation paths.
  • Monitor, analyze, and interpret state legislative and regulatory developments related to data centers, AI infrastructure, energy policy, taxation, and economic development.
  • Build and maintain strong bipartisan relationships with state lawmakers, government officials, staff, and other influential stakeholders.
  • Conduct policy research and competitive analysis to identify opportunities to participate in coalitions, working groups, advocacy initiatives, and other strategic efforts.
  • Coordinate with commercial, legal, communications, operations, and other internal stakeholders to ensure consistent messaging and alignment on state government affairs objectives.
  • Represent the organization at legislative hearings, industry conferences, stakeholder meetings, and other relevant events.
  • Identify practical opportunities to position data center and AI infrastructure investments as contributors to economic development, jobs, tax revenue, energy infrastructure, and regional growth.
  • Drive government affairs strategies that translate policy engagement into tangible business outcomes and support expansion into new markets.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Political Science, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive professional experience in multi-state government affairs, legislative affairs, or a closely related policy function.
  • Deep understanding of state legislative and regulatory processes and their impact on business operations and growth.
  • Proven track record of developing and managing bipartisan relationships with government officials, policymakers, and legislative stakeholders.
  • Strong research, analytical, and policy interpretation skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and drive strategic initiatives through completion.
  • Comfort operating with ambiguity in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to execute effectively within a collaborative, cross-functional team structure.
  • Strong multi-state government affairs experience is preferred.
  • Experience in technology, tax policy, energy policy, infrastructure development, or related fields is preferred.
  • Knowledge of AI, cloud computing, data centers, or adjacent technology sectors is preferred.
  • Experience with coalition building or advocacy campaign management is preferred.
  • Familiarity with political landscapes and key decision-makers across multiple states, particularly Texas, is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate business results, economic impact, or revenue outcomes through government affairs initiatives is preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 40–50% of the time throughout the Southeast region and to relevant conferences and key markets.
  • Because the position involves access to export-controlled information, candidates must meet applicable U.S. Government export-control eligibility requirements, including qualifying as a U.S. person, being eligible for access without export authorization, or being eligible and reasonably likely to obtain the required authorization.
  • Base salary range of $122,000–$163,000 USD, with starting compensation determined by job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location.
  • Discretionary bonus and equity awards, subject to eligibility.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance fully paid by the employer.
  • Company-paid life insurance, plus voluntary supplemental life insurance.
  • Short- and long-term disability insurance.
  • Flexible Spending Account and Health Savings Account options.
  • Tuition reimbursement.
  • Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP) participation.
  • Mental wellness benefits through Spring Health.
  • Family-forming support through Carrot.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Flexible, full-service childcare support through Kinside.
  • 401(k) with a generous employer match.
  • Flexible PTO.
  • Catered meals at office and data center locations.
  • Casual work environment with a strong focus on innovation, collaboration, and independent thinking.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development within a rapidly expanding organization.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
