The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Software Engineer (L4) based in India.

This is a senior technical leadership opportunity focused on building and evolving high-scale backend systems that power real-time customer engagement. You will set technical direction across business-critical services and influence architecture over multiple quarters and organizational boundaries. The role combines deep hands-on engineering with strategic decision-making around scalability, reliability, performance, and cost. You’ll work with distributed engineering, product, and platform teams to solve complex systems challenges and unblock shared dependencies. You’ll also help raise engineering standards through design reviews, code reviews, mentorship, and operational excellence. This is an ideal environment for an experienced backend engineer who enjoys solving ambiguous problems and shaping technology at significant scale.

Accountabilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend services supporting a large-scale real-time routing platform.
  • Define and own the technical direction and architectural vision for business-critical services operating on AWS.
  • Lead the design of distributed-system initiatives involving scalability, data architecture, fault isolation, reliability, and migration strategies.
  • Improve the availability and resilience of Tier 0 systems while balancing reliability, cost, and delivery speed.
  • Make long-term architectural tradeoffs and present, defend, and evolve designs through formal architecture review processes.
  • Partner with engineering, platform, and product teams to align technical approaches, resolve dependencies, and accelerate delivery.
  • Influence product and engineering roadmaps by providing strong technical perspectives and identifying opportunities for long-term platform improvements.
  • Promote engineering excellence through design reviews, code reviews, technical mentorship, and direct support for senior and mid-level engineers.
  • Drive operational excellence through observability, incident response, gamedays, troubleshooting, and permanent remediation of recurring issues.
  • Represent the technical direction of the team across the broader engineering organization and contribute to a strong culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • 8+ years of professional experience developing production-grade backend software using a modern programming language such as Java, Golang, Python, Scala, or a comparable technology.
  • Strong expertise in fault-tolerant distributed systems, event-driven architectures, database design, and high-scale backend engineering.
  • Proven experience designing and operating cloud-based infrastructure on AWS.
  • Strong understanding of high-scale, low-latency API design and development.
  • Hands-on experience with databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, or comparable technologies.
  • Excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills, particularly for complex distributed applications.
  • Experience delivering production services using modern CI/CD development practices.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering and product teams.
  • Comfort working with ambiguity, making technical decisions, and solving complex problems in a rapidly evolving environment.
  • Experience with Kafka, Pulsar, or similar event-streaming technologies is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, or other containerization and orchestration technologies is advantageous.
  • Solid understanding of Linux systems and networking concepts is a plus.
  • Experience building multi-tenant SaaS platforms at scale is preferred.
  • Familiarity with observability technologies such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog is beneficial.
  • Experience collaborating with geographically distributed engineering teams is advantageous.
  • Fully remote position available to candidates based in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Maharashtra, or New Delhi, India.
  • Competitive compensation package.
  • Generous paid time off.
  • Parental and wellness leave.
  • Healthcare benefits.
  • Retirement savings program.
  • Opportunities to work on high-scale, business-critical distributed systems.
  • Significant technical influence over architecture, engineering strategy, and product direction.
  • Mentorship and collaboration with experienced engineers across global teams.
  • Opportunities for occasional travel for project or team meetings.
  • An inclusive, remote-first working environment focused on innovation, ownership, and continuous learning.
  • Opportunities to contribute to community initiatives through volunteering and donation programs.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
