The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a TrevorSpace Moderator based in the United States.

This is a meaningful opportunity to help create a safe, inclusive, and affirming online community for LGBTQ+ young people and their allies. As a TrevorSpace Moderator, you will support daily community operations, assist users with platform-related questions, and ensure that online interactions follow established safety guidelines. You will play a vital role in identifying harmful content, recognizing signs of distress, and connecting at-risk young people with appropriate support and resources. Working closely with crisis intervention professionals and external agencies, you will contribute to protecting vulnerable users and promoting positive online engagement. The role combines community management, digital safety, risk assessment, and empathetic communication in a mission-driven environment. This fully remote position offers the opportunity to make a tangible difference in young people's lives while helping strengthen a supportive and inclusive digital space.

Accountabilities

  • Community Management: Oversee daily community operations, assist users with platform functionality, approve user clubs, process account deletion requests, and respond to inquiries through the online platform.
  • Content Moderation and Safety: Review user-generated content and reports of potentially harmful behavior, including bullying, harassment, hate speech, sexual solicitation, graphic content, and other violations of community guidelines.
  • Policy Enforcement: Apply community standards consistently, fairly, and thoughtfully to maintain a safe, respectful, and affirming environment for LGBTQ+ young people and their allies.
  • Risk Identification and Escalation: Monitor community discussions for emerging safety concerns, including suicidal ideation, self-injury, violence, exploitation, and other indicators of potential harm. Share appropriate digital resources and escalate concerning content in accordance with established protocols.
  • Crisis Support Coordination: Collaborate with crisis services professionals and emergency responders when necessary to help connect young people experiencing urgent situations with appropriate support.
  • Reporting and External Coordination: Prepare and submit timely reports to law enforcement, child protective services, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), and other relevant agencies when required.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Maintain accurate records of moderation activities, safety incidents, escalations, and other relevant interactions, ensuring established documentation and reporting procedures are followed.
  • User Engagement and Facilitation: Respond to questions promptly, facilitate constructive discussions when appropriate, and communicate with users in an empathetic, respectful, and inclusive manner.
  • Community Insights and Improvement: Collect user feedback, identify recurring concerns and conversation trends, and share insights that can inform improvements to the platform and community experience.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with crisis intervention teams and colleagues across the organization to coordinate responses, share relevant information, and support broader prevention and safety objectives.
  • Continuous Learning and Inclusion: Strengthen LGBTQ+ cultural competency, stay informed about online safety practices, and contribute to a workplace and community grounded in diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging.
  • Professional Accountability: Demonstrate sound judgment, ethical decision-making, attention to detail, effective time management, and the ability to handle multiple priorities within strict deadlines.
  • Community Management Experience: Previous experience managing online communities, particularly in environments focused on harm reduction, user well-being, and digital safety.
  • Content Moderation Expertise: Hands-on experience reviewing user-generated content, identifying policy violations, and responding appropriately to harmful or inappropriate online behavior.
  • Trust and Safety Knowledge: Experience interpreting and applying online community policies, trust and safety procedures, and content moderation guidelines consistently and fairly.
  • Incident Reporting Experience: Experience preparing or submitting reports to law enforcement, child protective services, NCMEC, or other relevant authorities in accordance with established procedures.
  • Communication Skills: Strong spoken and written English proficiency, with the ability to respond clearly and professionally to user inquiries and communicate sensitive information appropriately.
  • Empathy and Emotional Intelligence: Demonstrated ability to listen actively, respond compassionately, build mutual understanding, and interact respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Risk Recognition and Judgment: Ability to recognize potentially harmful content, identify signs of distress, follow escalation procedures, and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive situations.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills and accuracy in reviewing content, documenting incidents, maintaining records, and following established protocols.
  • Problem-Solving and Multitasking: Ability to prioritize competing tasks, manage time-sensitive requests, adapt to changing circumstances, and work effectively under pressure.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Proven ability to work constructively with colleagues, share information responsibly, and coordinate with internal teams and external agencies.
  • Commitment to Inclusion: A genuine commitment to supporting LGBTQ+ young people and fostering an inclusive, affirming environment. Willingness to continue developing cultural awareness and competency is essential.
  • Schedule Flexibility: Availability to work a five-day schedule that includes at least one weekend day and non-standard hours, supporting a community that operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, throughout the year.
  • Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States. Employment visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Remote Work Eligibility: Must be based in the continental United States, Alaska, or Hawaii and able to maintain a secure, suitable remote working environment.
  • Additional Consideration: Candidates should be prepared to review potentially distressing content involving suicide, self-harm, violence, child sexual exploitation, bullying, harassment, and other sensitive safety issues. The role may also involve coordination with law enforcement and emergency services.
  • Competitive Compensation: Starting pay of $28 per hour.
  • Comprehensive Healthcare: Health insurance coverage, including plans that support gender-affirming care needs.
  • Mental Health Support: Access to mental health resources, virtual care, and a range of in-network and out-of-network support options.
  • Retirement Savings: A 403(b) retirement plan with a 3% employer match, subject to a three-year vesting schedule.
  • Paid Time Off: Generous paid leave and company holidays to support rest, recovery, and work-life balance.
  • Employee Assistance Program: Access to confidential emotional support, work-life resources, financial and legal guidance, and online assistance.
  • Remote Work Flexibility: The ability to work remotely from the continental United States, Alaska, or Hawaii.
  • Home Office Support: Work technology provided, along with a home office setup reimbursement and monthly internet reimbursement.
  • Mission-Driven Work: The opportunity to contribute directly to suicide prevention, crisis intervention, and online safety for LGBTQ+ young people.
  • Inclusive Workplace: A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging.
  • Union Representation: This is a union-represented position covered by a collective bargaining agreement with the Communications Workers of America (CWA).

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
