This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Vice President, Software Engineering based in United States.

This executive leadership role will oversee software engineering across a complex portfolio of regulated healthcare and medical technology platforms. The position combines long-term technology strategy with hands-on accountability for delivery, scalability, quality, and operational performance. You will lead large engineering organizations and senior technical leaders while building a culture centered on accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement. The role spans clinical, patient-facing, cloud, data, and connected-device software within a highly regulated Software as a Medical Device environment. You will work closely with Product, Quality, Regulatory, Security, Research, Machine Learning, and IT leaders to turn ambitious ideas into reliable products. You will also drive engineering modernization through automation, CI/CD, AI-assisted development, and data-driven operating practices. This is a highly visible opportunity to shape technology strategy, organizational growth, and software capabilities that directly contribute to better patient outcomes.

Accountabilities

  • Lead end-to-end software engineering execution across clinical, patient-facing, platform, cloud, data, and device-integrated software systems within a regulated medical technology environment.
  • Establish and continuously improve engineering operating models, governance frameworks, development practices, and metrics that support predictable delivery, effective risk management, and operational excellence.
  • Drive initiatives that improve engineering velocity, product quality, system reliability, release confidence, customer outcomes, and overall delivery performance.
  • Ensure software development lifecycle practices consistently meet applicable regulatory, quality, cybersecurity, and compliance requirements, including FDA expectations, IEC 62304, ISO 13485, and internal quality management standards.
  • Translate complex technical challenges, delivery risks, and strategic tradeoffs into clear recommendations and actionable insights for executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Advance engineering capabilities through scalable CI/CD frameworks, automation, development platforms, and productivity tools suited to regulated environments.
  • Guide the responsible adoption and governance of AI-assisted software development practices to improve productivity, quality, innovation, and delivery outcomes.
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing organization of engineering directors, managers, and senior technical leaders, while strengthening leadership capabilities and organizational resilience.
  • Partner with Product, Security, Quality, Regulatory, Clinical, Research, Systems Engineering, Machine Learning, and IT teams to align architecture, execution, and business priorities.
  • Lead technical diligence, assessments, and post-acquisition software integration activities in support of strategic growth initiatives.
  • Contribute to long-term platform, architecture, and technology strategy, ensuring systems can scale while maintaining innovation, reliability, and competitive differentiation.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, technical excellence, and high-quality execution across the engineering organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive software engineering leadership experience, including responsibility for large-scale engineering organizations and senior technology leaders.
  • Demonstrated experience leading the development and delivery of Software as a Medical Device solutions within highly regulated medical device or healthcare environments.
  • Proven ability to guide complex regulated software products from concept and development through verification, validation, regulatory approval, commercialization, and post-market support.
  • Deep knowledge of FDA software regulations, IEC 62304, ISO 13485, and medical device quality systems, with the ability to apply these requirements within modern software development environments.
  • Experience leading matrixed engineering organizations through periods of growth, transformation, organizational change, and technology modernization.
  • Strong background with high-availability, scalable software platforms, cloud services, connected products, data ecosystems, and customer-facing applications.
  • Experience modernizing software delivery through CI/CD, automation, engineering productivity platforms, and contemporary development practices.
  • Practical understanding of AI-assisted software development, including evaluating, implementing, and governing AI-enabled engineering practices.
  • Experience with technical diligence, integration planning, or software leadership support for mergers and acquisitions is advantageous.
  • Strong strategic and execution-oriented leadership skills, with the ability to translate business priorities into measurable engineering outcomes.
  • Exceptional communication and influencing abilities, particularly when working with executive stakeholders and diverse cross-functional teams.
  • Proven ability to recruit, retain, mentor, and develop senior engineering talent while creating a culture of accountability and innovation.
  • Data-driven, pragmatic, and decisive approach, with the ability to balance speed, quality, regulatory compliance, and business impact.
  • Resilient and adaptable leadership style suited to complex, rapidly evolving, and highly regulated environments.
  • Estimated base salary range of $278,000–$361,000, with actual compensation varying based on experience, skills, qualifications, and work location.
