The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a VP, Controller based in the United States.

Join a rapidly growing AI infrastructure company powering developers and organizations as they build, train, deploy, and scale advanced AI applications. As VP, Controller, you will lead the accounting organization and establish the financial foundations needed to support the company's next stage of growth. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will oversee financial reporting, technical accounting, compliance, internal controls, and audit readiness. You will shape the accounting strategy, develop a high-performing team, and modernize financial systems through automation and AI. Working closely with executive leadership, the board, investors, and cross-functional partners, you will help guide critical business decisions and strategic transactions. This is an opportunity for a hands-on finance leader to build a scalable, audit-ready accounting function in a remote-first environment at the forefront of AI innovation.

Accountabilities

  • Lead accounting strategy and operations: Define the accounting organization's vision, structure, priorities, and operating model to support rapid business growth and increasingly complex financial requirements.
  • Build and develop the team: Recruit, mentor, and retain a high-performing accounting team, establishing clear responsibilities, effective processes, and a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee financial reporting and close: Own monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, ensuring timely, accurate financial statements that comply with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP).
  • Manage technical accounting: Serve as the primary authority on accounting policies, complex transactions, and revenue recognition, ensuring accounting positions are well documented, defensible, and consistently applied.
  • Lead external audits: Manage auditor relationships end to end, coordinate audit preparation and execution, resolve findings, and strengthen audit readiness as the business scales.
  • Establish internal controls: Design and maintain a robust internal control framework that supports reliable financial reporting, effective risk management, and a clear path toward Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) readiness.
  • Partner with executive leadership: Present financial results, accounting policies, risks, and significant judgments to the CFO, executive team, board, and investors, translating complex financial topics into clear recommendations.
  • Support cross-functional decisions: Collaborate with Finance, Legal, People, Revenue, and other departments on contracts, commercial arrangements, equity matters, and strategic initiatives with accounting implications.
  • Modernize accounting systems: Establish the roadmap for accounting technology, improve the finance systems environment, and implement automation and AI-enabled workflows to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
  • Oversee tax and compliance: Manage tax matters, regulatory compliance, equity accounting, and relationships with external accounting, tax, and other professional advisors.
  • Support strategic transactions: Lead accounting activities related to financings, due diligence, complex business events, and other strategic transactions, ensuring financial information and documentation are complete and reliable.
  • Drive long-term readiness: Build processes, systems, and governance that can accommodate larger financings, increasingly sophisticated audits, and future public-company requirements.
  • Accounting leadership experience: At least 8 years of progressive accounting experience, including 5 or more years leading accounting teams and owning significant accounting operations.
  • Professional certification: Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
  • High-growth technology experience: Demonstrated success building and scaling accounting functions within a high-growth technology, SaaS, cloud infrastructure, or similarly dynamic business.
  • Technical accounting expertise: Deep knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting, accounting policies, and the application of accounting standards to complex business transactions.
  • Internal controls and audit readiness: Experience designing and managing internal controls within an integrated finance systems environment, including SOX compliance or SOX-readiness initiatives.
  • External audit ownership: Proven ability to lead external audits as the primary point of contact, manage auditor expectations, and ensure high-quality financial documentation.
  • Revenue recognition knowledge: Familiarity with SaaS and/or usage-based revenue models, including ASC 606, is strongly preferred.
  • Strategic transaction experience: Experience guiding accounting through major financings, first-time Big Four audits, or IPO-readiness initiatives at a venture-backed company is an advantage.
  • Technology and automation capabilities: A track record of using automation and AI to streamline accounting processes, improve controls, and reduce manual work is preferred.
  • Public accounting background: Experience in public accounting is an additional advantage.
  • Executive communication: Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex accounting issues and financial risks to executives, board members, and investors.
  • Leadership and judgment: A hands-on, builder-oriented mindset, combining strategic thinking with the willingness to investigate details, solve problems, and make sound decisions in a fast-moving environment.
  • Compliance and eligibility: Successful completion of a background check and legal authorization to work in the United States. Employment visa sponsorship is not currently available.
  • Competitive base salary: $260,000–$330,000 USD annually, with the final offer determined by experience, qualifications, location, and career level.
  • Equity participation: Restricted stock units (RSUs), providing an opportunity to share in the company's long-term growth and success.
  • Comprehensive healthcare: Medical, dental, and vision insurance, with 100% of employee premiums covered and partial coverage for dependents.
  • Flexible paid time off: Flexible PTO to support work-life balance and personal well-being.
  • Remote-first work environment: The flexibility to work remotely while collaborating with an inclusive, distributed team.
  • Home office support: A $1,200 stipend for home office equipment and workspace setup.
  • Career development: The opportunity to build and lead a growing accounting organization while shaping financial strategy, systems, and processes.
  • AI innovation: The chance to contribute to a rapidly evolving AI infrastructure sector and implement modern automation technologies across accounting operations.
  • Collaborative culture: An environment that values ownership, learning, accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
