Als Steunouder geef je steun aan ouders en plezier aan het kind. Je vangt één of twee dagdelen het kind op. Daarmee help je de vraagouders. Wil je als vrijwilliger een gezin helpen en vind je het leuk om met kinderen om te gaan? Dan is Steunouder misschien iets voor jou!

Wie kan Steunouder worden?

Een Steunouder vindt het fijn om iemand te helpen en beleeft plezier aan de omgang met kinderen. Het is een dankbare taak omdat je als Steunouder van onschatbare waarde kunt zijn voor ouders en hun kind. In sommige situaties is het belangrijk om je eigen grenzen te bewaken. Het is handig als je flexibel bent en makkelijk communiceert. Spreekt dit je aan, laat het ons weten!

Wat bieden wij?

Voordat je start bieden wij je een (digi)training, waarin je handvatten krijgt voor het steunouderschap en waarin je andere Steunouders ontmoet. Een Steunouder-coördinator begeleidt de start en de match. Je kunt altijd op de coördinator terugvallen.

Wie zijn de vraagouders? Over het algemeen worden Steunouders gezocht voor ouders die behoefte hebben aan een steuntje in de rug omdat ze niet altijd op hun eigen netwerk kunnen terugvallen. Bijvoorbeeld omdat ze door een recente verhuizing nog geen contacten in de buurt hebben. Of omdat het niet lukt om een sociaal netwerk te onderhouden doordat het gezin te maken heeft met een fysieke of mentale beperking bij een ouder en/of een kind. Ook rouw, armoede of mantelzorgen kan een rol spelen.

Door de hulp van een Steunouder krijgt het kind rust, regelmaat en structuur. De ouders krijgen ruimte om op adem te komen en de eigen draagkracht te vergroten. Het kind kan bij de ouder blijven wonen en de ouder blijft als ouder verantwoordelijk. Door de inzet van een Steunouder verkleint het risico dat (zwaardere) hulpverlening zoals pleegzorg nodig is. Maar ook pleegouders kunnen een beroep doen op Steunouders.

Periode

De duur van de inzet van steunouders hangt af van de behoefte van kind en ouders en jouw mogelijkheden. Dit betekent dat het steuntje in de rug van korte of langere duur kan zijn.

Hoe word je steunouder? 1. Aanmelden: Je kunt je aanmelden bij de steunouder-coördinator in je woonplaats. 2. Informatie: Je ontvangt van de Steunouder-coördinator informatie en een vragenlijst om thuis in te vullen (in sommige gevallen voor, in andere na het kennismakingsgesprek. 3. Kennismaking: De Steunouder-coördinator maakt een afspraak met je voor een kennismakingsgesprek. Dit gesprek is belangrijk om je goed te leren kennen zodat er een goede match gemaakt kan worden met het vraaggezin. 4. VOG: We vragen jou en, indien van toepassing, jouw partner en kinderen ouder dan 18 jaar, om een Verklaring Omtrent Gedrag (VOG) aan te vragen. Deze aanvraag is zonder kosten. De Steunouder-coördinator kan hierbij helpen. 5. Training: Je volgt onze training waarbij je leert over het steunouder-schap. We staan stil bij jouw rol en de grenzen van vrijwillige inzet. Ook delen een steun- en een vraagouder hun ervaringen. 6. Ontmoeten: Na de training volgt de wenperiode met kind en ouder(s). Elkaar leren kennen en vertrouwen winnen zijn belangrijke voorwaarden voor succes. 7. Afspraken: Is er voldoende klik en verloopt de kennismakingsperiode goed, dan starten we. 8. Succes!: U bent Steunouder geworden!
