The posting

At Ledgebrook, we’re building a next-generation insurance infrastructure — fast, smart, and scalable — and are looking for a Director of Ceded Reinsurance to lead reinsurance strategy, placement, and administration for Stonehaven Specialty Insurance Company, Ledgebrook’s new third-party hybrid fronting carrier.

This role reports to the Chief Risk Officer and works closely with Actuarial, Finance, Claims, and the program teams. The Director of Ceded Reinsurance structures and places Stonehaven’s reinsurance, while counterparty approval and collateral verification sit independently with the Director of Credit & Collateral Risk.

About the Role

Stonehaven is seeking a Director of Ceded Reinsurance to structure, place, and administer the reinsurance behind every program on Stonehaven’s paper. The successful candidate will be an experienced reinsurance professional with deep treaty structuring and wording expertise, strong reinsurer and intermediary relationships, command of statutory reinsurance accounting and risk-transfer testing, and the operational discipline to keep cessions reconciled and recoverables collected.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop Stonehaven’s preferred treaty wording, including security, downgrade, offset, insolvency, and dispute-resolution terms, and apply it consistently across every program.
  • Structure and place reinsurance for each program, including quota shares with caps, sliding-scale and profit commissions, excess-of-loss and facultative cover, and whole-account placements that keep net retention within appetite.
  • Evaluate reinsurance that arrives attached to a program, and bring every reinsurer and collateral provider to the Director of Credit & Collateral Risk for independent approval before binding.
  • Perform risk-transfer testing on every treaty with Actuarial and Finance to preserve statutory credit and protect Schedule F.
  • Work with Actuarial to identify risk that is not ceded, including the tail above treaty caps and exposure that falls outside treaty terms.
  • Run cession operations: produce the data reinsurers require, reconcile cessions to the financials with Finance, and meet treaty reporting and notification requirements.
  • Manage reinsurance recoverables with Finance and Claims, including cash calls on large losses, and resolve disputes before they impair surplus.
  • Ensure every program has reinsurance bound before it quotes business, and plan renewals, commutations, and runoff, staggering renewal dates where practical.
  • Build the treaty contract management system with Technology so terms, subjectivities, renewals, and facultative placements are searchable and tracked.
  • Support the Reinsurance Security Committee and manage relationships with reinsurers, captives, and reinsurance intermediaries.

About you

  • Customer-First Empathy: You are passionate about delivering an exceptional experience to everyone you work with, both inside and outside the company.

  • A Growth Mindset: You possess a hunger for continuous learning and want to constantly expand your skillset.
  • Urgency & Prioritization: You can pivot quickly and balance the need to get things right with the speed of getting them done right now.
  • A Solution-Oriented Outlook: When things go wrong, you don't look for blame—you immediately focus on how to fix it.
  • Transparent Communication: You value honesty, clarity, and open feedback.
  • Team-First Energy: You want to win together as a high-performing team and actively build connections across our remote locations.

Requirements

Must Haves:

  • 10+ years in P&C reinsurance at a carrier, fronting carrier, reinsurer, or reinsurance intermediary, including treaty structuring and placement.
  • Direct experience drafting and negotiating treaty wordings, including security, offset, insolvency, and dispute-resolution clauses.
  • Working knowledge of statutory reinsurance accounting, risk-transfer testing, and Schedule F.
  • Experience administering cessions and collecting recoverables, including large-loss cash calls.

Nice to Haves:

  • Prior experience at a fronting, hybrid fronting, or program carrier, where reinsurance often arrives with the program.
  • Experience with captive, ILS, or other collateralized reinsurance capacity.
  • Professional designation such as ARe or CPCU.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
