About lemon.markets 🍋

We enable anyone to be an investor. Our mission is to grow investing opportunities for all European customers and businesses. By empowering FinTechs, banks, and wealth managers to offer investment products, we help create financial well-being for their customers.

lemon.markets is a Brokerage-as-a-Service platform: simple digital access to capital markets through a single API. Our API-first infrastructure abstracts brokerage complexity with a well-documented API, a self-service customer operations portal, and a clear regulatory framework, so partners can launch customer-centric, compliant products in weeks, not months.

As part of the dwpbank Group, we share a clear goal: we enable anyone to be an investor by making investing in capital markets more accessible. By combining dwpbank’s long-standing expertise and stability with lemon.markets’ technology-first mindset and speed, we are building a modern, modular securities services ecosystem. Together, we offer faster time-to-market, modular services, and a modern customer experience that helps financial service providers stay competitive and respond more flexibly in a changing market.

Your Mission

As our Compliance & AFC Working Student, you will be an active contributor across the full spectrum of our compliance operations, spanning investment compliance, regulatory compliance, data protection, and anti-financial crime (AFC). You will support a team that sits at the intersection of regulation, product development, and operations in a fast-moving fintech brokerage environment.

In this role, you will gain comprehensive insights to the Compliance, Data Protection and Anti-Financial Crime Functions which are essential pillars of lemon.markets that influence everything from customer onboarding to trade execution and beyond. Your work will encompass policy updates, regulatory research, audit support, and documentation management, providing you with a well-rounded perspective of compliance operations at lemon.markets.

You’ll experience the unique combination of operating at the crossroads of technology and regulation while engaging with critical compliance responsibilities. Working alongside experts in compliance, anti-money laundering, risk, and operations, you’ll deepen your understanding of regulatory frameworks and operational strategies while developing your skills in process optimisation and governance. As part of the dwpbank Group, you will also gain exposure to compliance at institutional scale, and have the opportunity to take ownership of impactful projects and grow professionally in a rapidly evolving industry.

In this role you will:

- Support the Compliance & AFC Function across its full range of daily operations, taking ownership of tasks and stepping in where the team needs you most.

- Monitor and contribute to the continuous improvement of compliance processes across functions, ensuring consistency with applicable regulatory requirements.

- Prepare and organise documentation for internal and external audits, including group-level reviews within the dwpbank Group.

- Conduct regulatory and legal research to support country expansion assessments, new product launches, and partner onboarding.

- Utilise modern tools and AI-assisted research methods, including prompt engineering, to improve the efficiency and quality of compliance work.

You’ll be successful in this role if you:

- You are currently enrolled at a German university or Hochschule and expect to remain enrolled for at least one more year.

- You are based in Berlin and available to work in a hybrid setup with regular time in the office.

- You are studying law, finance, or a related field, and you have already gained relevant internship or working student experience in compliance or another highly regulated environment.

- You have a solid understanding of compliance and what it means to work in a second line of defence function.

- You communicate clearly in English and feel comfortable working in a team with a strong written culture and structured documentation.

- You are curious, organised, and solution-oriented: you enjoy learning, researching, managing your work independently, collaborating with others, and using technology to improve how work gets done.

- First hands-on experience with AI prompting or technology-supported research and productivity workflows.

What great looks like

- You bring a thoughtful, grounded attitude to learning and do not approach the role with a know-it-all mindset.

- You are open to feedback, ask good questions, and actively seek to understand how and why things are done.

- You combine attention to detail with strong self-management and follow-through.

- You are a strong team player who communicates clearly and contributes reliably.

- You are excited by structured problem-solving and pragmatic, technology-driven ways of working.

How we take care of you

- 🚀 Compensation package: Our working student positions are compensated at a fixed rate of €15-17 per hour.

- 💎 Make a real impact: Our start-up environment gives you the room to start your career, explore areas outside your role, and build expertise through ownership. As we mature and are backed by dwpbank, we’re adding a layer of resources and expertise you are benefiting from.

- 🕑 Flexible working hours: We know your studies come first. That’s why we offer flexible hours that adapt to your class schedule and exam periods, so you can plan your work time around your semester.

- 🏢 Hybrid work setup: You can work from Berlin within a hybrid model. That being said, we encourage our working student lemoneers to come to the office regularly. Being on-site allows you to learn faster, provides a more immersive experience, helps you collaborate more effectively with the team, and ensures you fully benefit from hands-on support.

- 📈 Grow with us: We take your personal development seriously! You’ll get regular mentorship and stretch opportunities, plus a clear career development framework with frequent feedback conversations so you always know where you stand, and what to do to level up.

- 🌱 People & culture: You’ll feel our culture in the small things, like Polaroids from our lemoneers’ first day and our monthly new-joiner breakfasts. But also in the bigger things, like celebrating the onboarding of new partners or our annual offsites, where the whole company comes together to connect, reflect, and celebrate.

- 🏝 Workation: Get out of here! At lemon.markets you can work remotely from anywhere in the EU for up to 10 consecutive days at a time, and up to 60 days per year in total.

As an equal opportunity employer, lemon.markets is committed to building an inclusive workplace. The company welcomes people from all different backgrounds, including age, citizenship, ethnic and racial origins, gender identities, individuals with disabilities, marital status, religions and ideologies, and sexual orientations to apply.

If you feel this role could be a great match for you even if you don’t tick every box, we’d still love to hear from you, please apply.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
