Purpose of the job / project
The ICUdata4EU project, funded by the European Union's Digital Europe Programme (Grant Agreement No 101168169), aims to standardise and improve the use of patient data for critically ill individuals across borders. By creating a strong data infrastructure, it strives to enhance clinical decisions, enable personalised care, and promote predictive healthcare, revolutionising critical care in Europe. The key goals are to standardise Intensive Care Unit (ICU) data, develop a centralised data platform, promote cross-border analysis, and ensure privacy and security.
As a Platform Security Engineer, you will support the security and reliability of LNDS infrastructure and services. You will work as part of the technology team to help implement security best practices across cloud environments, applications, data platforms, and operational services. You will contribute to the secure delivery of services supporting the ICUdata4EU initiative and collaborate with internal teams and European partners to help ensure systems remain secure, compliant, and operational. You will be mentored by experienced colleagues and progressively develop autonomy in security engineering, cloud infrastructure, and secure software delivery practices.
What you will do
- Contribute to implementing and maintaining security controls across cloud platforms, infrastructure, applications, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Support vulnerability management activities by helping identify, assess, track, and remediate security findings.
- Assist with monitoring security events, alerts, and operational security metrics and escalate issues when needed.
- Participate in security assessments, audits, and compliance-related activities under guidance from senior team members.
- Help ensure that infrastructure and application deployments follow security-by design and privacy-by-design principle
- Contribute to maintaining secure system configurations, access management controls, and infrastructure-as-code resources.
- Support incident response activities through investigation, documentation, and follow-up actions.
- Collaborate with development, platform, and data teams to help implement secure solutions that meet project requirements.
- Document security processes, configurations, procedures, and operational practices.
- Stay informed about emerging security technologies, vulnerabilities, and best practices and share knowledge within the team.
Who you are
- Master's degree in a scientific, technological, or engineering discipline related to computer science, information technology, cybersecurity, or computing.
- 0 to 2 years of experience in cybersecurity, IT infrastructure, system administration, DevOps, cloud engineering, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of common cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and mitigation techniques.
- Understanding of Linux operating systems and system administration fundamentals.
- Basic knowledge of networking concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, and firewalls.
- Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
- Basic exposure to cloud technologies and infrastructure-as-code concepts (e.g., Terraform).
- Familiarity with scripting languages such as Bash or Python.
- Basic understanding of containerization technologies such as Docker or Podman.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to quality and continuous improvement.
- Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to work within multidisciplinary teams.
- Adaptable, curious, and eager to learn new technologies and security practices.
- Excellent communication skills in English
