The posting

MacroHealth’s purpose is to measurably improve healthcare access, cost and quality. The MacroHealth Marketplace enables enterprise healthcare buyers and their members to discover, choose and work with the healthcare vendors and providers that are best for their unique needs.

The Role

MacroHealth operates a two-sided healthcare marketplace connecting healthcare buyers with health market partners to improve the cost, quality, and access of healthcare. Our marketplace spans categories of healthcare spend, including Pharmacy, Medical Repricing, and emerging areas of opportunity. Within these categories, we bring buyers and health market partners together to discover, evaluate, and transact around solutions to some of healthcare's most significant challenges.

The Vice President, Marketplace Categories leads the strategy, development, and performance of MacroHealth's portfolio of healthcare marketplace categories. This leader identifies where our marketplace can create differentiated value, guides investment across existing and emerging categories, and builds and leads a team of Marketplace Category Managers accountable for individual category strategy and performance.

Reporting to the Chief Product Officer, this role translates broader product and marketplace strategy into clear priorities, investment decisions, and measurable outcomes. The VP partners closely with Marketplace Capabilities, which owns the horizontal capabilities and experiences that enable buyers and health market partners to discover, evaluate, transact, and realize value across categories.

Success requires a leader who combines marketplace strategy, healthcare economics, product discovery, commercial judgment, and people leadership to build a strong portfolio of categories, and an empowered team capable of developing them.

What You'll Own

Category Portfolio Strategy & Investment

- Own the strategy and performance of MacroHealth's marketplace category portfolio, making clear choices about where to compete, differentiate, and invest.

- Balance investment across strengthening established categories, addressing unmet needs, and exploring new areas of healthcare spend.

- Evaluate category opportunities through buyer demand, differentiated supply, marketplace friction, economics, strategic fit, and potential for scalable value creation.

- Partner with the Chief Product Officer and executive leadership to recommend where to invest, accelerate, reposition, or stop.

- Ensure individual category strategies collectively strengthen MacroHealth's broader marketplace rather than becoming disconnected products or roadmaps.

Category Management Leadership

- Build, lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of Marketplace Category Managers accountable for individual category strategies and outcomes.

- Establish clear expectations that Category Managers deeply understand buyer needs, health market partner ecosystems, supply and demand dynamics, category economics, and opportunities for differentiation.

- Empower Category Managers to develop evidence-based strategies, establish priorities, evaluate opportunities, and drive category performance through cross-functional partnerships.

- Establish consistent approaches to category planning, performance management, and investment decisions while allowing for differences in category maturity and market dynamics.

- Develop the strategic judgment, commercial acumen, discovery capabilities, and leadership effectiveness of the Category Manager team.

- Foster shared learning across categories so that insights and investments strengthen the overall marketplace.

Marketplace Development & Discovery

- Lead a disciplined approach to identifying, evaluating, and validating new marketplace categories and opportunities within existing categories.

- Build a strong pipeline of opportunities informed by customer needs, health market partner capabilities, marketplace data, healthcare economics, and industry dynamics.

- Ensure discovery begins with meaningful market problems rather than predetermined products or solutions.

- Guide teams in testing whether opportunities have sufficient buyer demand, differentiated supply, addressable marketplace friction, and attractive economics.

- Establish evidence-based investment criteria, enabling opportunities to progress from discovery through validation and scale—or be redirected or stopped when warranted.

- Encourage teams to consider multiple ways to create value, including marketplace mechanisms, partner strategies, product capabilities, AI and data solutions, commercial models, and operational improvements.

Category Performance & Marketplace Intelligence

- Establish meaningful measures of category health and performance across demand, supply, matching, transactions, customer outcomes, and economics.

- Partner with Category Managers to assess performance, identify constraints, and determine where strategic or operational changes can improve marketplace value.

- Develop a portfolio-wide perspective on marketplace dynamics, identifying patterns and opportunities that may not be visible within individual categories.

- Maintain a strong external perspective on healthcare economics, payer needs, health market partner models, competition, technology, and regulation.

- Translate category performance and market intelligence into stronger strategies, investment decisions, and marketplace outcomes.

Marketplace & Cross-Functional Leadership

- Partner closely with Marketplace Experience to translate category needs into scalable horizontal capabilities while distinguishing genuinely category-specific requirements.

- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Design, Data, AI, Growth, Customer, Finance, and other functions to align category priorities and execution.

- Ensure Category Managers build strong cross-functional relationships and influence outcomes without relying on direct organizational authority.

- Bring a clear marketplace and category perspective to enterprise planning, resource allocation, and strategic decision-making.

- Create alignment around where MacroHealth sees opportunity, why it matters, what evidence supports investment, and what outcomes we expect.

How We'll Measure Success

- Category and portfolio performance: Growth, economic contribution, marketplace participation, transactions, and value delivered to buyers and health market partners.

- Marketplace health: Strength and quality of buyer demand, differentiated supply, matching effectiveness, customer outcomes, and retention.

- Portfolio development: Quality of the emerging opportunity pipeline, effectiveness of investment allocation, and successful progression of validated opportunities into scalable categories.

- Discovery and decision quality: Speed, rigor, and effectiveness of opportunity evaluation, prioritization, and investment decisions.

- Category Management effectiveness: Strength of category strategies, accountability for outcomes, and development of capable, empowered Category Managers.

- Marketplace leverage: Evidence that category insights and investments strengthen shared capabilities and the broader marketplace.

What You Bring

- Significant leadership experience in product management, marketplace strategy, category development, or related technology-driven businesses.

- Demonstrated success building and leading teams of senior product, category, or strategy leaders with meaningful accountability for business outcomes.

- Strong understanding of two-sided marketplaces, including supply and demand dynamics, matching, liquidity, incentives, network effects, and marketplace economics.

- Experience developing portfolio strategies, identifying new market opportunities, and making disciplined investment tradeoffs.

- Strong product discovery orientation, with experience taking ambiguous opportunities from exploration through validation and scale.

- Commercial and financial acumen, with the ability to connect marketplace opportunities to customer value and enterprise economics.

- Exceptional curiosity, analytical thinking, and the ability to distinguish individual customer requests from scalable market opportunities.

- Ability to translate complex market dynamics into clear strategies, priorities, and decisions.

- Experience influencing across Product, Engineering, Data, Sales, Customer, Operations, and Finance.

- Healthcare experience strongly preferred, particularly healthcare economics, payer markets, healthcare services, benefits, or healthcare technology.

- Understanding of how AI, data, and automation can transform marketplace economics, differentiation, and customer experiences.

How You Lead

- Curiosity and empathy: You seek to understand buyers, health market partners, and underlying market problems before jumping to solutions.

- Systems thinking: You see connections across categories, economics, customers, partners, and technology—and prioritize the strength of the overall marketplace.

- Empowered leadership: You develop strong Category Managers, establish clear accountability, and coach strategic judgment rather than becoming the decision bottleneck.

- One Team: You operate with humility, low ego, and a commitment to shared outcomes across functions.

- Clarity and discipline: You create the structure needed for sound investment decisions without sacrificing speed, experimentation, or learning.

- Ownership and adaptability: You translate strategy into measurable results, challenge assumptions, and adjust course when evidence warrants it.

Above all, you continually ask: Where can MacroHealth uniquely create marketplace value, which opportunities deserve investment, and how do we make each category stronger while strengthening the marketplace as a whole?

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
