Job Responsibilities:
The Press Assistant Department Leader is responsible for leading the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of the Press Department. This role drives departmental performance through a focus on Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Morale objectives while ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. The position provides leadership and direction to production personnel, manages resources and production schedules, supports equipment reliability, and champions continuous improvement initiatives to meet customer expectations and business goals.
1.Know and understand Bowling Green Metalforming Quality and Environmental policies.
2. Lead departmental performance through a focus on Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Morale objectives while promoting operational excellence, employee engagement, and continuous improvement.
3. Production Planning & Scheduling: Develop, coordinate, and execute production plans to meet customer requirements, optimize capacity, and ensure on-time delivery performance.
4. Resource Management: Direct the effective utilization of personnel, equipment, materials, and other resources to maximize productivity and achieve departmental objectives.
5. Quality Management: Drive adherence to quality standards and implement effective quality control processes to reduce defects, improve customer satisfaction, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
6. Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Foster a safety-first culture by ensuring compliance with all environmental, health, safety, and company policies while proactively identifying and mitigating workplace risks.
7. Leadership & Team Development: Lead, coach, mentor, and develop department personnel through performance management, training, accountability, and employee engagement initiatives to build a high-performing team.
8. Equipment Reliability & Maintenance: Collaborate with maintenance and production teams to ensure the effective maintenance, repair, and reliability of press equipment, minimizing downtime and supporting operational goals.
9. Continuous Improvement: Champion lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives focused on improving safety, quality, productivity, delivery performance, cost reduction, and waste elimination.
10. Financial & Cost Management: Monitor departmental expenses and support cost-control initiatives to achieve budget objectives while maintaining operational effectiveness and profitability.
11. Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate production, quality, safety, maintenance, and operational records, providing timely reports and analysis to support informed business decisions.
12. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Maintenance, Quality, Tool & Die, Engineering, Human Resources, and other departments to resolve issues and achieve plant objectives.
13. Maintain reliable and predictable attendance.
14. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.
What we are looking for:
- Degree in Engineering, Tooling, Maintenance, and/or 3-5 years relevant professional experience in a similar position required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of press shop operations, stamping equipment, tooling systems, maintenance practices, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience leading teams in a high-volume manufacturing environment, including employee development, performance management, and operational oversight.
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in heavy metal stamping operations required.
- Proven ability to drive safety, quality, productivity, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Preferred qualifications:
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, root cause analysis, and other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to lead in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, effectively manage competing priorities, and make sound business decisions under pressure.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and implement sustainable solutions.
- Ability to think strategically and systematically, with a focus on process improvement and operational excellence.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate across all levels of the organization.
- Ability to conduct workplace investigations, analyze findings, and complete accurate incident and corrective action reporting.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with a focus on accountability and results.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships and effectively resolve employee relations and operational issues
