The posting

Engineer improvements to our radar products, from root cause investigation and redesign through verified performance in the field.

MatrixSpace develops AI-enabled radar and sensing systems that help people understand what's happening in the world around them. By combining advanced radar, edge computing, and AI, we deliver situational awareness in environments where traditional sensing solutions struggle.

We're looking for a hands-on Product Engineer with an electrical engineering background to take engineering ownership of improvements to our released radar products. You'll investigate complex hardware and system issues, develop circuit and board redesigns, and validate solutions in the lab and in the field. Working with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and development engineering, you'll improve product reliability and radar performance while helping keep existing products in production and in service.

If you enjoy solving difficult engineering problems and seeing your designs work in real operating conditions, we'd love to talk.

What You'll Do

  • Perform detailed troubleshooting of radar hardware and integrated systems, using circuit analysis, schematics, measurements, logs, and radar data to isolate failures and distinguish hardware, firmware, software, RF, and environmental causes.
  • Lead root cause investigations of production failures, returned units, and field issues. Develop and test hypotheses, reproduce failure conditions, and document the evidence supporting the diagnosis and corrective action.
  • Evaluate and qualify alternate components for obsolete or unavailable parts through datasheet analysis, design calculations, and testing of electrical, thermal, and system performance.
  • Design and implement circuit and PCB changes to correct failures and improve reliability, manufacturability, and performance. Evaluate design tradeoffs, participate in engineering reviews, and release changes through established change-control processes.
  • Operate and configure radar systems in the lab and in the field. Analyze detection and tracking behavior, review radar data, and assess how installation, target motion, clutter, and operating conditions affect performance.
  • Plan and conduct field tests to reproduce reported issues and verify root causes under representative operating conditions. Define measurable success criteria, compare baseline and modified systems, and demonstrate that solutions meet requirements without degrading other functions.
  • Resolve engineering issues affecting manufacturing yield, test repeatability, and acceptance criteria. Improve diagnostic methods and test coverage so production teams can identify defects and verify product performance.
  • Maintain schematics, bills of materials, engineering change records, test plans, and troubleshooting documentation so approved solutions can be built, tested, and supported consistently.
  • Work with software, firmware, RF, and mechanical engineers to resolve system interactions and integrate corrective changes. Define the specialist support needed while driving the investigation and validation to completion.
  • Prioritize recurring issues by customer and production impact, track corrective actions, and confirm that implemented changes prevent recurrence.

What We're Looking For

This position requires working directly or indirectly with the US Government in restricted environments. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship and may be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance in the future.

Required

  • 1–3 years of relevant engineering experience involving electronic product design, redesign, detailed troubleshooting, or verification.
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • Hands-on experience diagnosing electronic hardware at the circuit, board, and system levels, with the ability to develop and verify engineering solutions.
  • Ability to analyze schematics and component datasheets, perform design calculations, and use oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other bench equipment to evaluate circuit behavior.
  • A methodical approach to root cause analysis, controlled experiments, test planning, and interpreting results against defined performance criteria.
  • Working knowledge of analog and digital circuits, power supplies, and interfaces between hardware and embedded systems.
  • Ability to document design decisions, test results, and technical findings clearly and collaborate effectively with engineering and production teams.
  • Availability to work full time onsite in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, and participate in field testing at customer or test locations.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with sustaining or product engineering, including redesign and validation of electronic products already in production.
  • Experience operating and testing radar systems, interpreting radar data, or troubleshooting RF electronics and integrated sensing systems.
  • Experience qualifying alternate components and addressing component obsolescence.
  • Experience with PCB design tools, schematic capture, engineering change orders, configuration control, and manufacturing test development.
  • Experience using Python or other scripting tools to analyze test data, automate measurements, and reproduce intermittent failures.

Someone Who Will Thrive in This Role

  • Enjoys understanding radar systems in detail and translating that understanding into practical engineering improvements.
  • Uses measurements and test data to challenge assumptions and follows problems through redesign and verified resolution.
  • Balances urgent production and field needs with durable solutions, sound design decisions, and careful documentation.
  • Takes ownership of engineering problems, seeks specialist input when needed, and communicates clearly across disciplines.

At MatrixSpace, you'll help shape the performance and reliability of radar systems our customers use every day. Your work will connect engineering analysis and redesign with hands-on radar operation and field testing, turning difficult product issues into proven solutions.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
