Build the future!

McGraw Hill is a global education innovation company offering solutions from textbooks to EdTech platforms that improve learning outcomes. To support our growing digital learning platform, we are hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join our Learning Tools team. You will play a key role in designing, building, and leading the delivery of services used in Higher Ed, and you will operate within a general office environment, including remote work.

How are you creating an impact?

You will design and implement complex software solutions, lead technical projects, and mentor junior engineers. The services you help develop provide content that millions of students rely on every day to achieve their educational goals, which matters even more in today’s world of hybrid and remote learning. Working across the full stack with Angular, cloud technologies, and modern CI/CD practices, you will help ensure our products are scalable, accessible, high quality, and built with customer empathy at the forefront.

What will you be doing?

  • Design and develop scalable, efficient, and maintainable software solutions across the frontend, backend/API, database, and infrastructure layers
  • Lead technical projects and contribute to architectural decisions
  • Collaborate with product managers and other stakeholders to define requirements
  • Implement best practices in coding, testing, and deployment
  • Contribute to technical documentation and support the testing process
  • Promote engineering best practices within your team to ensure quality, stability, performance, resiliency, and maintainability
  • Mentor junior team members and share knowledge and practices with other teams
  • Champion the customer’s voice and ensure our products are built with customer empathy
  • Support other projects and duties as assigned

We are looking for someone having:

  • 4+ years of experience in product or enterprise software development
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience preferred
  • Experience with frontend frameworks, specifically Angular
  • Strong hands-on experience across the full software stack, including frontend, backend/API, databases, and infrastructure
  • Strong understanding of software design patterns and architectural principles
  • Strong understanding of Accessibility guidelines
  • Experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines
  • Proven technical abilities in software development, testing, monitoring, performance tuning, and deployment pipelines
  • Focus on application quality and testing practices such as unit, integration, and e2e testing, code coverage analysis, and automated software inspection
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Passion for engineering best practices
  • Strong sense of customer empathy and a commitment to delighting customers
  • Ability to work across functional and domain boundaries to deliver software on time and with quality
  • Angular 12+, Node.js, RESTful Web Services, CI/CD, Docker, Terraform, AWS, MySQL, and A11y experience preferred
  • PHP, Go, Python, or other backend language experience is a plus

Additional details

  • Travel: None
  • Working environment: General Office (includes remote work)
  • Physical expectations: Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 10% of the time

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
