Modeling and Simulation Research Scientist, Reality Labs Research

Meta Reality Labs is seeking a Modeling and Simulation Research Scientist to advance the development of next-generation augmented and virtual reality hardware. In this role, you will apply coupled multiphysics modeling and simulation techniques to accelerate device development and inform the design of electrochemical and electro-mechanical systems for wearable AR/VR devices. You will work at the intersection of device engineering and physics-based simulation, partnering with hardware engineers and cross-functional teams to translate simulation insights into actionable design guidance.

Responsibilities

• Perform coupled electrochemical-mechanical-thermal modeling of electrochemical systems (e.g., batteries, motors) integrated into larger electro-mechanical systems
• Perform CFD modeling to understand and design fluidic components for AR/VR devices
• Interpret modeling results and present relevant insights to collaborators, recommending design changes and directions to meet device performance requirements
• Lead model verification and validation efforts, designing data collection and testing methods and plans
• Work closely with partner teams to inform model development and validation through iterative collaboration
• Develop and maintain simulation workflows using FEA tools such as COMSOL or ANSYS to support device design decisions
• Communicate simulation methodologies, assumptions, and results through written technical reports and cross-functional design reviews

Minimum Qualifications

• PhD in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or similar discipline and/or equivalent relevant experience
• Experience in relevant modeling and simulation techniques including multiphysics (mechanical, thermal, electrochemical, CFD)
• Experience with end-to-end model development, iterations, and validation
• Experience with FEA tools such as COMSOL or ANSYS
• Experience with CAD tools such as NX or Solidworks
• Proficiency in Matlab and Python scripting

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with scripting for model parameterization (Ansys APDL), cloud computing, simulation parallelization, automation, or GPU acceleration
• Experience with CFD Analysis
• Experience in Electronics Reliability or E-CAD/M-CAD file conversion
• Experience with open source FEA tools such as FEniCS
• Experience with critical thinking, structured problem solving, and practical application of Design of Experiments (DOE) and Statistical Analysis (Monte Carlo)
• Experience simulating batteries and/or motors
• Experience with Multi-Disciplinary Optimization or Multiphysics Topology Optimization
• Experience with MEMS Multiphysics Analysis and Reduced Order Modeling

US: $122,000/year to $181,000/year + bonus + equity
