The posting

Meta's Edge compute fleet - around 162,000 servers in more than 600 locations worldwide - is how our users reach us. Unlike most of Meta's hardware, this fleet doesn't run in our own data centers: it lives in Edge PoPs terminating user connections, and in ISP and cell-service-provider locations running caching for partner networks.

The Edge Hardware team is the hardware engineering partner to the Traffic organization that owns this footprint. We are a key partner in hardware selection and qualification, qualify firmware across every component, investigate failures in the deployed fleet, and define the detection and remediation tooling that keeps it healthy. The work sits directly in the user's path: a hardware fault we miss becomes a user-visible availability problem.

You'd work day to day with an engineer who is being hired alongside you and with the team in Dublin who currently owns the area - and represent the Edge hardware in architecture conversations with the Traffic organization.

Responsibilities

  • As a Production Systems Engineer on edge hardware, you'll set the technical direction for areas of the edge platform, mentor other engineers across the function, and drive multi-quarter initiatives that reshape how the fleet is sustained
  • Help set the technical direction for multi-vendor enablement - provisioning and sustaining APIs, parts inventory collection, validation coverage, and remediation. Meta's Edge fleet has run on a single server vendor for many years; the transition to multiple vendors means rebuilding deeply-held assumptions, and we need a technical leader who can help define the shape of that transition and align partners around it
  • Mentor the engineer being hired alongside you, and the broader team
  • Represent Edge hardware in architecture conversations with the traffic organization - translating hardware behavior and constraints into service-level language early, before they become late surprises
  • Define and own the Edge platform's firmware qualification strategy across all current and future OEMs and platform generations (3–5 year deployment horizons)
  • Drive technical workstreams that span HDRTP (Hardware Design & RTP), Traffic, and OEM engineering teams

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 8+ years of experience in hardware server system support, troubleshooting server architecture and components, analyzing, triaging, and solving systems level issues
  • Expertise with Linux and scripting (Python or similar)
  • 4+ years of experience in changing system configurations and measuring change impact, working through full lifecycle progressions of computer systems products
  • 4+ years of experience engineering innovations in support of different server system/data center products

Preferred Qualifications

  • Significant experience with Python development and automation. Extensive hands-on experience administering and troubleshooting Linux systems. Significant experience in debugging hardware or firmware issues remotely at a fleet scale
  • Track record of setting technical direction for multi-quarter programs and mentoring engineers
  • 10+ years of experience in production systems engineering, hardware engineering, infrastructure engineering, or a closely related field, with demonstrated technical leadership across cross-functional initiatives
  • Experience owning the technical architecture of initiatives that span multiple teams or organizations

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
