Job Summary
Responsible for the School Bus Driver training program to including initial Bus Driver Training, remedial training, and continued professional development for MNPS Bus Drivers in accordance with federal, state, and local laws that govern school buses and commercial vehicle operations. Plans, organizes, and coordinates the driver safety program in accordance with established policy and procedures.
What you will do
- Manages the entire driver training program to ensure every trainee is trained according to the Entry Driver Level
- Training Program and federal requirements to include theory, behind the wheel, on range, and on road training.
- Ensures every trainee is fully trained and prepared prior to being presented for the CDL exam.
- Manages the MNPS Drug and Alcohol program for all aspects of the MNPS Drug and Alcohol Policy to include
- preemployment, return to work, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident. Drug and Alcohol testing
- selection notification and record keeping of all Drug and Alcohol documentation as required by DOT requirements
- Responsible to maintain accurate data for the transportation department on bus accidents and incidents, reporting
- to the state, and other Key Performance Indicator metrics as required.
- Plans, develops, and executes all of the transportation scheduled in-services and staff development meetings. All
- training must have prior approval from the executive director of transportation.
- Conducts performance reviews and safety check rides with bus drivers periodically as required. Evaluates the
- safety of bus stops and bus routes, as required, if directed.
- Responds to accidents and incidents, and maintains all accident files records, state reports, accident review team
- meetings, and other records as required by the department.
- Conducts all aspects of instruction to ensure all candidates are qualified and ready to perform their duties.
- Provides instruction to bus drivers and bus monitors of proper bus evacuation procedures.
- Runs required annual motor vehicle report on all certified bus drivers and a 3-year MVR on all employees operating
- an MNPS vehicle.
- Responsible for maintaining the status of all required licensing, credentials, and required training, including DOT
- physicals, infinit-I training, and CDL renewals, etc., in driver files. Responsible for data entry on ELDT training into
- the federal portal, and maintaining proper Federal Motor Clearinghouse Administration process on current and
- new CDL applicants, annual review of drivers in FMCSA database, and other duties as related to state and federal
- reporting as required. Maintains an annual DOT physical.
- Responsible for interviewing new driver candidates and new bus monitor candidates. Reviews applications,
- references, resumes, and oversees scheduling of interviews, and schedules classes.
- Provides remedial driver and monitor training, and defensive driving courses, to drivers who are determined to be
- inefficient in driving skills.
Additional Requirements
- Operates a school bus as needed.
- Serves on the accident review team and the Snow Patrol Team.

- 4-6 years Relevant experience Required
Skills and Abilities
- Computer Skills with proficiency in MS Office
- Must possess a strong understanding of student management. Must be able to teach effective
- strategies in student management.
- Ability to operate all types of school buses: transit, conventional, and special needs school buses
Licenses and Certifications
- Class B CDL License with Passenger (P) and School Bus (B) endorsements Upon Hire Required
- Qualifications as 3rd Part Examiner for license evaluations within 180 Days Required
Equivalency Starting At: $102,374.78
Salaries are determined by factors relevant to the position which may include education, experience, and other qualifications. Final compensation decisions are made at the discretion of MNPS in alignment with organizational policies and procedures. The stated salary range for certificated teaching positions is calculated based on 201 days and should be viewed as a reference. All provided salary ranges serve as a general guideline.
