Position Summary

The Claims Assistant – Litigation provides combined operational, administrative, and legal-support services to the Financial Lines and Cyber Claims teams, with additional support for Trade Credit & Political Risk and Environmental claims as business needs require.

The role supports claims professionals and counsel through accurate claim administration, document management, bill review, court and docket research, related-claim research, tracking and reporting claim information, and preparation of coverage and litigation information. The position does not independently make legal, coverage, settlement, or claim-handling decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process acknowledgment letters, wire/ACH and payment-transfer requests, claim setup materials, correspondence, other routine claims administrative items.
  • Support counsel assignment, including referrals to panel counsel and tracking assignment status to help ensure counsel is timely appointed.
  • Conduct docket, court-record, public-record, and internet research; organize and summarize relevant filings, parties, counsel, case status, and significant dates for review by claims professionals or counsel.
  • Research potentially related claims, proceedings, parties, allegations, or fact patterns and prepare clear summaries with supporting source documentation.
  • Assist with organizing policy and coverage documents, litigation materials, settlement documentation, counsel correspondence, and payment records.
  • Manage trial and mediation calendars, including tracking scheduled dates, deadlines, and related updates, and communicate upcoming events to the appropriate claims professionals.
  • Review legal, vendor, and other claim-related bills for required information, accuracy, and consistency with applicable billing guidelines; track review status and route discrepancies or exceptions to the appropriate claims professional.
  • Assist with maintaining claim information, diaries, status trackers, and reporting data; prepare recurring and ad hoc reports on claim activity, payments, significant dates, and other requested metrics for review by claims professionals and management.
  • Track adjuster and law license CE/CLE requirements and renewals and authorities.
  • Coordinate with claims professionals, Claims Operations, coverage counsel, defense counsel, brokers, vendors, and other stakeholders; escalate items requiring legal, coverage, management, or claims-handling judgment.
  • Handle confidential claim, legal, financial, and personal information in accordance with company requirements.

Qualifications

  • Paralegal certificate, associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience preferred.
  • 2+ year of relevant experience in insurance claims, claims operations, legal or paralegal support, litigation support, legal operations, or a comparable administrative environment is preferred. Candidates with transferable experience will be considered.
  • Experience supporting Financial Lines, Cyber, professional liability, management liability, Trade Credit & Political Risk, or Environmental claims is a plus.
  • Familiarity with claims-management systems, bill-review or invoice-management platforms, docket or court-record research tools, document-management platforms, and reporting tools preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, is required.
  • Working knowledge of insurance terminology, legal terminology, litigation documentation, or claims-made-and-reported policy concepts is beneficial.

Core Skills

  • Strong research, organization, and written-summary skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Strong claim-data tracking, reporting, and follow-up skills
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and follow-up items
  • Professional communication and stakeholder coordination
  • Sound judgment regarding confidentiality and escalation
  • Accountability, adaptability, and consistent follow-through
  • Ability to work effectively under the direction of claims professionals and counsel

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
