About the Team

The Regulatory Relations team within the MUSO Regulatory Affairs Group leads and coordinates regulatory engagement across Mizuho U.S. Operations. The team manages regulatory examinations, continuous monitoring, inquiries, regulatory change management and firmwide regulatory initiatives, while overseeing regulatory issues through evaluation, remediation and validation.

The Deputy Head provides senior leadership across the function, helping drive a consistent, coordinated and forward-looking approach to regulatory engagement and ensuring leadership continuity.

Role Summary

The Deputy Head of Regulatory Relations is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the day-to-day execution of Mizuho U.S. Operations’ regulatory engagement program, including examinations, continuous monitoring, regulatory inquiries and related remediation commitments.

The Executive Director will partner with senior leaders across businesses and control functions to drive regulatory engagement strategy, governance and executive reporting; ensure regulatory interactions and submissions are timely, accurate and consistent; identify and escalate emerging regulatory risks; and provide effective leadership and development of the Regulatory Relations team. The role also serves as a key delegate to the Head of Regulatory Relations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help lead the Regulatory Relations function, establishing priorities, allocating resources and executing the regulatory engagement strategy; serve as a delegate to the Head of Regulatory Relations and provide leadership continuity as needed.
  • Oversee regulatory examinations, continuous monitoring, inquiries and other supervisory interactions from planning through closure, directing team execution and escalating material matters.
  • Serve as a senior regulatory relations advisor to business and control functions, coordinating regulatory requests, responses, meetings and follow-up actions.
  • Advise and prepare senior executives and subject-matter experts for regulatory meetings, interviews and presentations, and represent Regulatory Relations in supervisory interactions as delegated.
  • Review and challenge regulatory submissions, briefing materials and management responses to ensure they are accurate, responsive, well-supported and consistent with the firm’s positions and commitments.
  • Maintain an enterprise view of regulatory engagements, supervisory priorities, findings and commitments, identifying interdependencies, emerging themes and potential areas of regulatory risk.
  • Escalate material regulatory issues, execution risks, delays and stakeholder conflicts, and support timely resolution with appropriate senior management involvement.
  • Oversee regulatory remediation commitments and key workstreams, including management responses, remediation plans, milestones, supporting evidence and regulator-facing materials.
  • Deliver clear, concise and actionable regulatory reporting and insights to senior management, governance committees and, as appropriate, the Board.
  • Establish and maintain governance standards, regulatory interaction protocols, documentation requirements and quality controls that promote consistent execution and regulatory readiness.
  • Lead post-examination and continuous-monitoring reviews to identify lessons learned and drive improvements in regulatory engagement, response and remediation processes.
  • Oversee the integrity, completeness and currency of regulatory engagement and commitment records maintained in the firm’s GRC platform.
  • Lead, coach and develop Regulatory Relations team members, supporting talent development, succession planning and a high-performing, collaborative team culture.
  • Partner with Regulatory Change Management to communicate emerging laws, rules, supervisory priorities and regulatory expectations across the organization.
  • Oversee the annual review and administration of Regulatory Relations training.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in financial services, regulatory affairs, risk management, compliance or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience managing or supporting regulatory examinations, continuous monitoring and other supervisory interactions with U.S. banking and/or securities regulators.
  • Strong knowledge of banking and securities products, financial-services operations and key risk disciplines, including credit, market, liquidity, operational, model, compliance, financial crime and technology risk.
  • Working knowledge of relevant U.S. regulatory agencies and frameworks, including the FRB, NYSDFS, CFTC, FINRA, NFA and SEC.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements applicable to bank holding companies and intermediate holding companies, including regulatory capital, Basel standards, enhanced prudential standards and the Volcker Rule.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise and influence senior executives and navigate complex regulatory, business and control-function issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex regulatory matters into clear, concise and actionable messages for senior audiences.
  • Strong judgment, organizational skills and attention to detail, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-priority matters and demanding deadlines.
  • Demonstrated people leadership, coaching and talent-development experience, with the ability to provide effective leadership in a deputy or delegate capacity.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
