The posting

As our pharmacy continues to grow, this is an exciting opportunity to bring your clinical expertise, regulatory knowledge and leadership experience to an ambitious and evolving business. Working closely with our Superintendent Pharmacist, you will help shape the future of our pharmacy, strengthen professional standards and support the delivery of safe, effective patient care at scale.

We are looking for someone who is confident in their clinical and regulatory knowledge, understands the importance of patient safety and is ready to take on a position with significant accountability, influence and leadership.

What is the Job?

At Montu, every prescription represents a patient waiting for treatment that can make a genuine difference to their quality of life.

Our pharmacy processes over 50,000 prescriptions each month, with continued month-on-month growth of approximately 10%. As our operation continues to scale, the Deputy Superintendent Pharmacist will work in close partnership with the Superintendent Pharmacist across all areas of clinical and regulatory governance.

You will take a leading role in the day-to-day clinical operation of the pharmacy, providing specialist regulatory expertise in Schedule 2 Controlled Drugs, supporting professional standards and ensuring patient safety remains central to everything we do.

You will provide clear clinical and regulatory guidance, identify and manage risks, support inspections and audits, and contribute to the ongoing development of our pharmacy systems, processes and governance frameworks.

You will also deputise for the Superintendent Pharmacist when required, helping to balance the demands of a high-volume pharmacy operation with the professional, legal and regulatory standards expected of us.

What Will You Be Doing?

- Support compliance with GPhC standards, MHRA regulations and all relevant statutory and professional requirements.

- Lead the day-to-day clinical operation, providing clear guidance and direction to clinical and operational teams.

- Take an active role in regulatory inspections, audits and compliance reviews, ensuring the pharmacy remains inspection-ready.

- Identify, assess and manage regulatory risks, implementing appropriate corrective and preventative actions.

- Review and maintain pharmacy policies, procedures and governance frameworks.

- Maintain oversight of professional accountability, patient safety and regulatory reporting requirements.

Controlled Drugs Governance (Schedule 2)

- Act as a specialist in Schedule 2 Controlled Drugs regulation, working alongside the Superintendent Pharmacist to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.

- Oversee appropriate systems and controls for the safe storage, handling, dispensing, recording and management of Controlled Drugs.

- Ensure accurate, auditable records are maintained, with effective monitoring and reconciliation processes.

- Identify and address potential compliance risks, incidents and discrepancies.

- Support the development of Controlled Drugs governance processes that remain effective as prescription volumes increase.

Professional Leadership and Team Development

- Provide clinical leadership alongside the Superintendent Pharmacist to a pharmacy workforce of over 100 colleagues.

- Support the maintenance of professional standards and competencies across the pharmacy.

- Oversee competency frameworks, training requirements and ongoing professional development.

- Work with pharmacy leaders to promote accountability, patient safety and continuous improvement.

- Provide guidance on complex clinical, professional and regulatory matters.

- Collaborate with operational leadership to maintain accuracy, efficiency and patient-centred care.

Pharmacy Operations, Systems and SOPs

- Maintain oversight of pharmacy systems, processes and Standard Operating Procedures.

- Ensure operational practices remain compliant, efficient and appropriate for the scale of the business.

- Identify opportunities to improve patient safety, dispensing accuracy and operational efficiency.

- Support the implementation of pharmacy technology, automation and system improvements.

- Ensure appropriate governance is maintained when introducing new processes, technologies and services.

- Work closely with operational teams to balance prescription volumes, service delivery and regulatory requirements.

Strategy and Business Growth

- Work alongside the Superintendent Pharmacist, General Manager of Pharmacy, Medical Director and senior leadership team to support the clinical and regulatory strategy.

- Provide regulatory expertise when evaluating new services, products and business opportunities.

- Support regulatory readiness for pharmacy expansion and operational growth.

- Help develop scalable governance frameworks that support increasing prescription volumes.

- Contribute to decisions relating to pharmacy systems, technology and automation.

- Ensure regulatory considerations remain central to business planning and operational decision-making.

Who Are We Looking For?

We are looking for an experienced pharmacist with the expertise, confidence and ambition to make a meaningful contribution to the leadership of our pharmacy.

You will have strong clinical judgement, excellent regulatory knowledge and a thorough understanding of the professional standards required within a complex, high-volume pharmacy environment.

You will be particularly confident in Schedule 2 Controlled Drugs legislation and compliance, with the ability to provide clear, practical guidance to both clinical and non-clinical colleagues.

This role requires someone who can see the bigger picture. You will understand the importance of operational performance, commercial awareness and business growth, while ensuring patient safety and regulatory compliance are never compromised.

You will be comfortable joining a growing business, building relationships across teams and bringing fresh perspectives to the way we work. Above all, we are looking for someone who leads by example, communicates effectively, remains calm under pressure and has the confidence to challenge, influence and make informed decisions.

What Experience Will You Need?

Essential

- Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

- Extensive knowledge of GPhC Standards for Pharmacy Professionals and relevant pharmacy legislation.

- Demonstrable knowledge of Schedule 2 Controlled Drugs regulation and compliance in practice.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
