The following core values guide Marathon Petroleum’s approach to doing business: safety and environmental stewardship; integrity; inclusion; collaboration; and excellence. Interns/co-ops work side-by-side with experienced professionals as contributing members of diverse work teams who create value for the company’s shareholders. • Conduct data quality control and ensure data accuracy and consistency.
  • Participate in field data collection activities (if applicable).
  • Assist with data visualization and presenting geospatial data in accessible formats.
  • Support GIS-related tasks for ongoing projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Provide technical support to team members and troubleshoot GIS-related issues.
  • Stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies in GIS.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geospatial Sciences, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Concurrent enrollment in a Bachelor's degree seeking program for the duration of the experience.
  • Strong academic performance.
  • Available to work on site 40 hours per week.
  • Valid driver's license for work-related travel.
  • Must be able to provide reliable transportation to and from place of work.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Familiarity with GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar) and geospatial data formats.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Basic knowledge of spatial analysis, cartography, and data management practices is a plus.
  • Previous experience in GIS (internships, coursework, or projects) is preferred.

Why apply?

  • Gain hands-on experience working with GIS tools and technologies.
  • Opportunity to contribute to real-world midstream projects and impact decision-making.
  • Mentorship and guidance from experienced GIS professionals.

As an energy industry leader, our career opportunities fuel personal and professional growth.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
