The posting

We are seeking a highly motivated and creative Design Engineer to join our 3D Technologies team. This role combines product design, engineering, additive manufacturing, and innovation support to help solve real-world challenges across the organization. The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders to understand needs, develop practical solutions, and deliver end-to-end projects from concept through prototype and final implementation.

The role requires a strong user-centric mindset, hands-on technical capabilities, and the ability to rapidly transform ideas into functional products using advanced design, reverse engineering, and additive manufacturing technologies. The individual will also support daily operations of the 3D Technologies workshop, ensuring efficient execution of fabrication activities, equipment maintenance, and project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Product Design & Innovation

  • Collaborate with customers and stakeholders to identify challenges and opportunities for innovation.
  • Apply Design Thinking and User-Centered Design methodologies to develop practical and marketable solutions.
  • Translate concepts into functional designs using CAD software and rapid prototyping techniques.
  • Lead and contribute to co-inventing activities, developing prototypes and solutions through iterative design improvements.
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively to collaborators, customers, and project stakeholders.

Engineering & Additive Manufacturing

  • Design, prepare, and process 3D CAD models for additive manufacturing.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of 3D printing and fabrication equipment.
  • Select appropriate manufacturing technologies and materials based on design requirements, functionality, cost, and timeline.
  • Perform post-processing activities including cleaning, curing, finishing, assembly, and testing of printed components.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to support fabrication and manufacturing activities.

Reverse Engineering & Technical Development

  • Utilize 3D scanning and reverse engineering tools to capture, analyze, and recreate physical components.
  • Support engineering evaluations, design modifications, and technical documentation.
  • Organize and maintain a reusable design library and associated technical data.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards, regulations, and internal approval requirements

Operations & Laboratory Support

  • Manage fabrication workflows and coordinate project schedules to ensure timely delivery.
  • Track projects, maintain manufacturing records, and update workflow management systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and calibration of equipment.
  • Support material inventory management, supplier coordination, and laboratory housekeeping activities.
  • Participate in global collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related Engineering or Design discipline.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and relevant industry experience will be considered.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in design engineering, additive manufacturing, rapid prototyping, fabrication, or related technical fields.
  • Demonstrated experience in the complete product lifecycle, including design, prototyping, fabrication, testing, and implementation.
  • Hands-on experience operating 3D printing technologies and associated fabrication equipment.
  • Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, scientists, technicians, and business stakeholders

Required Skills

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of additive manufacturing technologies, including FDM/FFF, SLA, SLS, Material Jetting, and related processes.
  • Experience with reverse engineering tools and workflows, including 3D scanning and software such as Geomagic or Materialise Magics.
  • Knowledge of design-for-manufacturing principles and engineering drawing interpretation.
  • Familiarity with material properties and selection for additive manufacturing applications.

Professional Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking capabilities.
  • Customer-focused mindset with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to independently manage projects while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Adaptability, curiosity, and a passion for innovation and continuous learning.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
