Role Overview

We are seeking a hands-on AWS Network Engineer to design, implement, secure, and maintain cloud and hybrid network infrastructure supporting enterprise applications and mission-critical systems.

In this role, you will work with cloud architects, cybersecurity specialists, infrastructure teams, and technology partners to deliver secure, scalable, and highly available AWS networking solutions.

You will be involved in cloud network architecture, hybrid connectivity, network security, infrastructure automation, performance optimisation, and incident resolution.

This is an opportunity to develop expertise in AWS networking, cloud security, hybrid infrastructure, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) while contributing to complex enterprise cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities

AWS Cloud Networking & Infrastructure

  • Design, configure, deploy, and maintain AWS Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) environments.
  • Manage AWS networking components including subnets, route tables, security groups, Network Access Control Lists (NACLs), Transit Gateway, Route 53, and AWS PrivateLink.
  • Implement and maintain secure, scalable, and highly available cloud network architectures.
  • Configure and support hybrid cloud connectivity between on-premises data centres and AWS environments.
  • Manage AWS Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN, Transit Gateway, and related network gateways.
  • Configure and maintain DNS, DHCP, routing, and network connectivity services.
  • Support cloud infrastructure provisioning and network integration activities.

Network Security & Firewall Management

  • Implement network security controls in accordance with established security policies and standards.
  • Configure and manage network segmentation, access controls, traffic filtering, and firewall policies.
  • Administer Palo Alto firewalls, VPN infrastructure, and AWS-native security services such as AWS WAF.
  • Support secure connectivity for internet-facing applications and enterprise systems.
  • Apply Zero Trust networking principles where applicable.
  • Work with cybersecurity teams to identify and remediate network vulnerabilities and security misconfigurations.
  • Support network security reviews, compliance assessments, and remediation activities.

Load Balancing & Network Performance

  • Configure and manage AWS Elastic Load Balancing services, including Application Load Balancer (ALB) and Network Load Balancer (NLB).
  • Support traffic management and application delivery using AWS CloudFront and Nginx.
  • Troubleshoot network latency, connectivity, routing, and application traffic issues.
  • Monitor and optimise network performance, availability, and reliability.
  • Use AWS CloudWatch, VPC Flow Logs, CloudTrail, and other monitoring tools to investigate network and infrastructure issues.
  • Recommend improvements to network architecture, resilience, and performance.

Infrastructure Automation & Operations

  • Implement network automation and Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, and Ansible.
  • Develop and maintain reusable infrastructure configurations and deployment scripts.
  • Support provisioning, configuration, and troubleshooting of Windows and Linux EC2 instances.
  • Collaborate with DevOps and infrastructure teams to automate cloud networking deployments.
  • Support network configuration changes, infrastructure upgrades, and production deployments.
  • Participate in incident management, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem resolution.
  • Coordinate with vendors, system integrators, and internal technical teams to resolve complex network incidents.

Technical Documentation & Governance

  • Maintain accurate network topology diagrams, configuration records, technical documentation, and operational procedures.
  • Support change management, audit, and compliance activities.
  • Ensure network configurations comply with applicable organisational security standards and cloud governance requirements.
  • Collaborate with cloud architects and project teams on network design reviews and implementation planning.
  • Stay updated on AWS networking technologies, cloud security practices, and relevant government cloud policies and cybersecurity directives.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computing, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in network engineering, including hands-on exposure to AWS or hybrid cloud networking environments.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, DHCP, BGP, VPN, routing, and load balancing.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS networking services such as VPC, Transit Gateway, Route 53, PrivateLink, Direct Connect, and Elastic Load Balancing.
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting cloud network connectivity and hybrid network environments.
  • Knowledge of network segmentation, traffic filtering, firewall policies, and network access controls.
  • Experience supporting network security configurations and firewall infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation tools such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or Ansible.
  • Understanding of network architecture, high availability, performance optimisation, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with Zero Trust networking principles.
  • Experience using network monitoring, logging, and troubleshooting tools.
  • Good understanding of Windows and Linux server networking concepts.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cloud, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and project teams.

Preferred Skills

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
