The posting

We are looking for an energetic, commercially driven and well-connected Business Development Manager for our client, an established international ship-management company in the maritime sector.

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for identifying and securing new ship-management business from shipowners and maritime investors across Asia. This is a hunter-focused role requiring the successful candidate to open doors, build senior-level relationships and convert market opportunities into new management contracts.

The ideal candidate will have a technical or seafaring background, together with at least two to three years of maritime business development experience. He or she should possess a strong network of shipowners, investors and key decision-makers across Asia, with the technical credibility and commercial confidence to promote ship-management solutions effectively.

Job Description

  • Identify and pursue new ship-management opportunities with shipowners, investors and other maritime stakeholders across Asia.
  • Develop and execute business-development plans to grow the company's ship-management portfolio.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with shipowners, principals, investors and senior maritime decision-makers.
  • Proactively originate leads, secure meetings and create new commercial opportunities through an established industry network.
  • Present the company's ship-management capabilities, technical expertise and value proposition to prospective clients.
  • Understand each client's fleet, operational requirements and commercial priorities, and work with internal teams to develop suitable management proposals.
  • Lead business-development discussions from initial engagement through proposal preparation, negotiation and contract award.
  • Prepare commercial proposals, presentations, market intelligence and business-development reports.
  • Maintain a healthy pipeline of opportunities and provide regular updates on prospects, market developments and competitor activities.
  • Represent the company at client meetings, industry events, conferences and networking engagements.
  • Work closely with technical, marine, crewing, finance and senior management teams to support new business opportunities.
  • Travel regularly across Asia to meet prospective and existing clients.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Marine Engineering, Nautical Studies, Maritime Business or a related discipline.
  • A technical, seafaring or ship-management background is strongly preferred.
  • At least two to three years of relevant business development, commercial or sales experience within the maritime industry.
  • Strong existing network among shipowners, maritime investors and senior decision-makers across Asia.
  • Demonstrated ability to originate leads, open new accounts and develop business from the ground up.
  • Good understanding of third-party ship-management services and the operational priorities of shipowners.
  • Strong commercial acumen, negotiation ability and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Confident and persuasive communicator with a professional executive presence.
  • Technically inclined and able to hold credible discussions with shipowners, technical leaders and senior management.
  • Self-driven, resilient and comfortable working independently in a target-oriented hunter role.
  • Able and willing to travel frequently across the region.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
