The posting

The Cafe Assistant is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the café and ensuring customers receive friendly, efficient and professional service. The role involves customer service, food and beverage preparation, cashier duties, cleaning, stock handling and maintaining the overall cleanliness and presentation of the café.

Key Responsibilities

1. Customer Service

  • Welcome customers in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Take customer orders accurately and provide recommendations when required.
  • Serve food, beverages, desserts and ice cream/gelato efficiently.
  • Handle customer enquiries and feedback professionally.
  • Ensure a pleasant dining experience for all customers.

2. Food & Beverage Preparation

  • Prepare and serve beverages, desserts, ice cream/gelato and other café products according to company standards.
  • Assist with basic food preparation and plating.
  • Follow recipes, portion controls and presentation standards.
  • Ensure all food and beverages are prepared hygienically and safely.

3. Cashier Duties

  • Operate the POS system accurately.
  • Process cashless and cash payments.
  • Issue receipts and handle cash responsibly.
  • Assist with opening and closing cashier procedures.
  • Report any discrepancies to the supervisor or manager.

4. Cleaning & Hygiene

  • Maintain cleanliness of the dining area, counters, kitchen and service areas.
  • Clean tables, chairs, equipment, utensils and other café facilities.
  • Perform regular cleaning throughout the shift.
  • Follow food safety, hygiene and workplace safety requirements.
  • Ensure rubbish is properly disposed of and work areas remain organised.

5. Stock & Inventory

  • Assist with receiving and storing ingredients, packaging and supplies.
  • Check stock levels and inform the supervisor when replenishment is required.
  • Follow proper FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures.
  • Assist with stocktaking and inventory checks.
  • Minimise wastage and ensure products are handled and stored properly.

6. Café Operations

  • Assist with opening and closing duties.
  • Set up the café before operations and ensure the outlet is properly prepared.
  • Replenish products, packaging and service items when required.
  • Assist other team members during busy periods.
  • Follow company policies, procedures and service standards.

7. Other Duties

  • Assist in promotional activities, events and special campaigns.
  • Support the team in maintaining a positive and professional working environment.
  • Perform other reasonable duties assigned by the Supervisor, Manager or Management.

Requirements

  • Possess Food Hygiene Certification
  • Previous experience in F&B, retail or customer service is an advantage.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Able to work shifts, weekends and public holidays where required.
  • Physically able to stand for extended periods and perform general café duties.
