Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Chartering Manager to develop and manage dry bulk chartering activities across regional and international markets. The successful candidate will identify cargo and vessel opportunities, negotiate profitable fixtures and manage commercial exposure across assigned trades.
This role is suitable for a commercially driven professional with a strong dry bulk network, sound market judgement and experience working within a shipowner, operator, commodity trader or shipbroking environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute chartering strategies across assigned dry bulk markets and trade routes.
- Identify and secure suitable cargo and vessel opportunities.
- Negotiate and conclude voyage charters, time-charter trips, Contracts of Affreightment and other freight agreements.
- Prepare voyage estimates and assess freight rates, bunker costs, port expenses and overall profitability.
- Monitor vessel positions, cargo movements, commodity flows and freight-market developments.
- Manage commercial positions and exposure within approved risk parameters.
- Negotiate Charter Party terms, fixture recaps and rider clauses.
- Coordinate closely with operations teams to ensure smooth post-fixture execution.
- Monitor voyage performance against approved estimates and address commercial deviations.
- Develop and maintain relationships with shipowners, charterers, brokers, traders and cargo interests.
- Identify backhaul, triangulation and vessel-repositioning opportunities.
- Support claims, laytime, demurrage and other post-fixture matters when required.
- Maintain accurate records of enquiries, offers, fixtures and commercial performance.
- Provide regular market intelligence, forecasts and trading recommendations to management.
- Develop new customers, trade routes and long-term commercial opportunities.
Requirements
- Degree or diploma in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Business or a related discipline.
- 7 to 10 years of experience in dry bulk chartering, freight trading or shipbroking.
- Strong knowledge of voyage calculations, Charter Party terms and dry bulk markets.
- Experience with vessel segments such as Handysize, Supramax, Ultramax or Panamax would be advantageous.
- Established relationships with shipowners, charterers, brokers and cargo interests.
- Proven ability to negotiate and conclude profitable fixtures independently.
- Strong commercial judgement, numerical ability and risk awareness.
- Able to make timely decisions in a fast-moving and competitive market.
- Entrepreneurial, results-oriented and comfortable managing commercial responsibility.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
