Advisory Systems Engineer

Our field sales professionals rely on proactive technical support during the sales process – and our expert Systems Engineering team always steps up to the mark. We lead the development and implementation of complex and specialized products, applications, services and solutions. From delivering sales presentations and product demonstrations, to developing detailed installations or system integration plans, we ensure customers get the innovative, relevant, interoperable solutions they need.

What you’ll achieve:

The Cloud Platforms Advisory Systems Engineer is a customer-facing presales technical leader who helps organizations adopt hybrid cloud, private cloud, HCI, and container platforms. The role partners with account teams, customers, and technology partners throughout the opportunity lifecycle—from discovery and solution design through technical validation, proposal development, and handoff to delivery. The engineer translates business and technology objectives into secure, scalable, commercially viable solutions using Dell Private Cloud, VxRail, Kubernetes, and related technologies.

You will:

Drive Customer Engagement and Opportunity Leadership

  • Lead or support discovery workshops to understand current environments, business objectives, workloads, and transformation priorities.
  • Contribute to opportunity qualification, technical account planning, solution strategy, and risk assessment.
  • Understand customer decision criteria, timelines, success measures, and competitive position.
  • Partner with account executives, sales specialists, architects, delivery teams, and partners throughout the sales cycle.

Lead Solution Design and Validation

  • Design secure, scalable, and supportable hybrid-cloud, private-cloud, HCI, and Kubernetes solutions.
  • Produce architectures, reference designs, sizing recommendations, bills of materials, technical assumptions, and implementation considerations.
  • Validate integration, performance, resilience, security, automation, and operational requirements.
  • Develop and deliver demonstrations, workshops, proofs of concept, and technical evaluations.
  • Define proof-of-concept objectives, evaluation criteria, success measures, and next steps.

Champion Value and Competitive Positioning

  • Present technical and business value to technical, operational, procurement, and executive audiences.
  • Maintain current knowledge of competing HCI, cloud, KVM virtualization, Kubernetes, and infrastructure platforms.
  • Develop competitive positioning and objection-handling guidance.
  • Contribute to RFI/RFP responses, proposals, statements of work, presentations, and solution summaries.
  • Support TCO, ROI, and financial-impact comparisons across on-premises, public-cloud, and hybrid-cloud options.

Collaboration and Handoff

  • Document requirements, design decisions, risks, assumptions, and agreed success criteria.
  • Provide technical input to opportunity reviews, forecasting, pipeline discussions, and sales planning.
  • Complete structured handoffs to delivery and support teams when opportunities progress.
  • Share reusable architectures, competitive insights, lessons learned, and customer feedback.
  • Mentor less experienced team members on cloud platforms, HCI, Kubernetes, and presales practices.
  • Provide feedback on product and offer enhancements based on customer and market needs.

Essential Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in systems engineering, cloud infrastructure, consulting, solution architecture, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of technology presales or solutions consulting experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with customer discovery, solution design, technical presentations, demonstrations, proofs of concept, and proposals.
  • Hands-on experience or certifications in Kubernetes, Hyperscaler public cloud, VMware technologies, such as VCF or vSphere; and hybrid-cloud infrastructure is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with enterprise customers, channel partners, and cross-functional sales teams is highly desirable.
