About the Role

We are looking for a Contract Chemist to support laboratory testing of customer water and crude oil samples. This is a great opportunity to build hands-on experience in laboratory testing and industrial water analysis.

Training will be provided, so prior experience with the specific testing methods is not mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform manual laboratory testing on crude oil, sour water, wastewater, cooling water and boiler water samples.
  • Conduct tests including: COD (Hach) TOC, Turbidity, pH and Conductivity FIA for Phenol FTIR for oil and grease in wastewater BOD, SOUR and OUR testing
  • Prepare laboratory equipment and reagents prior to testing.
  • Accurately record, compile and report test results in the PSR database.
  • Clean, maintain and ensure laboratory equipment is in good working condition.
  • Handle and test samples such as Sour Water, which may contain high levels of H₂S and ammonia and may produce strong odours.
  • Independently manage day-to-day laboratory operations, including: Chemical and reagent inventory management Purchasing and stock tracking Laboratory housekeeping and general upkeep

Requirements

  • Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Prior exposure to the listed testing methods is an advantage but not mandatory, as training will be provided.
  • Proactive, responsible and willing to take initiative.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Comfortable working in a laboratory environment involving industrial water and crude oil samples.
