Job Description – Data Center Site Lead

The primary objective of this role is to drive excellence in both preventative and reactive maintenance programs by applying industry best practices, innovative maintenance techniques, and ensuring compliance with statutory and contractual requirements. The Site Lead will oversee the management and control of all plant, mechanical, and electrical systems, coordinating remedial actions with the Engineering Team during business-critical failures. This position provides leadership and direction to multi-skilled Engineering Operations teams, comprising both directly employed staff and appointed vendors. The Site Lead must ensure that all staff and vendors working within the client's facilities strictly follow client and company's policies and procedures. Additionally, this role serves as the point of escalation for critical failures, supporting the technical team in making safe, identifying, analyzing, rectifying, and reporting improvements. The Site Lead reports directly to the Data Centre Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage site operations, including effective hiring, motivation, development, training, and discipline of site operation technicians and maintenance teams.
  • Monitor KPI and uptime requirements.
  • Support site reviews covering maintenance standards, equipment replacement, security, change control, single points of failure, Tier adherence, and operational risk.
  • Ensure delivery of planned and reactive activities using the CMMS platform within financial operating targets.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by the Data Centre Operations Manager and Client Critical Facilities Manager.
  • Provide advice and consultation on facilities engineering matters to support client facility operations.
  • Oversee site repair and maintenance performed by subcontractors, ensuring work completion, quality, and methods comply with specifications and ordinance requirements.
  • Monitor, measure, and report on the performance of all specialist contractors, assessing their ability to carry out work against the agreed contractual budget.
  • Lead and support regular meetings with contractors, specialist vendors, and suppliers to establish and maintain required standards, and develop corrective action plans when performance falls below expectations.
  • Support daily cadence meetings, monthly operation meetings, and quarterly business reviews with the client.
  • Ensure maintenance documentation meets required standards and provides sufficient information to operate an effective asset management regimen.
  • Assist and support the client with statutory compliance requirements and certifications for the site.
  • Ensure asset information is maintained and changes are updated within the CMMS.
  • Ensure site operations, including incident management and escalation, are performed in accordance with approved Client and company's procedures.

Ideal Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in a mechanical, electrical, or operational engineering discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience operating electrical and mechanical services in a Tier III or equivalent data center or critical facility.
  • Resourceful, analytical, and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with a wide range of client stakeholders and vendor staff.
  • Possess relevant data center certifications.
  • Understanding of continuous improvement initiatives, client relationships, and report preparation.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
