Role Overview
EIC is seeking a part-time specialist English teacher for IELTS, preparing candidates for the IELTS Academic test
across all four skills, with General Training coverage where a candidate's pathway requires it. The successful
candidate will bring a record of candidates reaching their target band scores.
Key Responsibilities
• Plan and deliver IELTS preparation lessons in line with EIC's approved course design and delivery materials.
• Teach across all four components (Listening, Reading, Writing Tasks 1 and 2, and Speaking Parts 1 to 3),
covering both the paper-based and computer-delivered test formats.
• Apply differentiated, mastery-based instruction to meet the needs of learners at varying band levels.
• Diagnose entry band levels, agree target bands with each candidate, and track progress through structured
exam practice, full mock tests and targeted feedback.
• Mark writing and assess speaking against the IELTS public band descriptors, giving candidates criterion-
referenced feedback on task response, coherence and cohesion, lexical resource, grammatical range and
accuracy, fluency and pronunciation.
• Record student attendance
• Liaise with the Head ACE on student progress as required.
• Where qualified, deliver other EIC English or examination preparation lessons to eligible classes.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree or above in English, Applied Linguistics, TESOL, Education, or a related discipline.
• A recognised English language teaching qualification (CELTA, Trinity CertTESOL or equivalent); a DELTA
or Master's in TESOL/Applied Linguistics is an advantage.
• Relevant experience preparing candidates for IELTS or a comparable international English proficiency test,
such as TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic or Cambridge B2 First and C1 Advanced.
• Working knowledge of the IELTS test format and the public band descriptors, including current writing and
speaking assessment criteria.
• A track record of candidate band outcomes.
Desirable
• IELTS examiner training, or current or former IELTS examiner status.
• Prior experience teaching in a SWDA-registered private education institution or an IELTS preparation centre.
• Ability to teach a second EIC examination stream, such as Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language
or AEIS Secondary English.
Payment $50 per hour
