About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Field Service Engineer to support equipment installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and technology transfer activities across Singapore and the Asia Pacific region.

This role serves as a key technical interface between our regional operations and engineering teams in Japan. The successful candidate will be responsible for transferring technical know-how, interpreting Japanese technical documentation, coordinating engineering activities with Japanese technologists, and supporting customer operations at semiconductor manufacturing facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Support & Field Service

  • Perform installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and upgrades of semiconductor equipment.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions for equipment issues.
  • Provide on-site and remote technical support to customers across Asia.
  • Support equipment qualification and performance optimisation activities.

Technology Transfer

  • Support transfer of equipment technology, engineering knowledge, and best practices from Japan to regional operations.
  • Translate and interpret technical concepts, engineering requirements, and equipment specifications received from Japanese engineering teams.
  • Review Japanese-language technical manuals, engineering drawings, service bulletins, and training materials.
  • Conduct internal technical training and knowledge-sharing sessions for engineers and technicians.

Coordination with Japan Engineering Teams

  • Act as the primary liaison between regional engineering teams and Japanese technologists.
  • Participate in technical discussions, engineering reviews, and project meetings conducted in Japanese.
  • Coordinate engineering change requests, improvement activities, and technical escalations with Japan.
  • Facilitate communication relating to equipment development, field issues, and reliability improvements.

Regional Project Support

  • Support customer projects across Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Taiwan, and other Asia Pacific locations.
  • Travel regularly to Japan for technical training, factory acceptance activities, technology transfer programmes, and engineering workshops.
  • Assist in regional service strategy deployment and implementation.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Semiconductor Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in semiconductor equipment, vacuum systems, cryogenic systems, industrial automation, or related equipment support.
  • Experience in field service, equipment maintenance, installation, or process support will be an advantage.

Language Requirement

  • Japanese language proficiency (spoken, written, and reading) is required.
  • This position requires the engineer to:Communicate directly with Japanese technologists and engineering teams.Review and interpret Japanese-language technical documentation, manuals, engineering drawings, service reports, and training materials.Participate in technical discussions, training programmes, and technology transfer activities conducted in Japanese.Accurately convey technical information between regional operations and Japanese engineering stakeholders.

Technical Competencies

  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor manufacturing environments is preferred.
  • Experience with vacuum, cryogenic, refrigeration, pumps, compressors, gas systems, or process equipment is advantageous.
