Job Summary
The Facilities Technician is responsible for maintaining the hotel’s facilities, equipment, and building systems to a high standard of safety, reliability, appearance, and operational efficiency. The role involves preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, installations, and general technical support across guest rooms, public areas, kitchens, back-of-house areas, and mechanical rooms.
The Facilities Technician is expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to hospitality and consistently uphold MAMA standards while contributing to guest satisfaction, workplace safety, sustainability, and the smooth operation of the hotel.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repairs
- Carry out fault repairs, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance throughout guest rooms, public areas, kitchens, back-of-house areas, and other hotel facilities.
- Perform maintenance and minor repairs involving electrical systems, plumbing, carpentry, painting, lighting, kitchen appliances, fixtures, and Fire Life Safety (FLS) systems.
- Carry out general technical tasks, including connecting and setting up equipment and installing or replacing lighting, locks, hinges, fittings, and other fixtures.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and ensure work orders are completed within the required timeframe.
- Investigate escalated maintenance issues and take appropriate corrective action or refer them to the relevant specialist when necessary.
Plant & Equipment
- Conduct routine inspections of mechanical rooms, equipment, and relevant building systems to ensure they remain clean, safe, operational, and maintained to hotel standards.
- Identify potential equipment failures or maintenance concerns and take preventive action wherever possible.
- Ensure tools, equipment, materials, and maintenance supplies are properly controlled, maintained, stored, and used safely.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workshop and work area.
Preventive Maintenance & Documentation
- Complete scheduled preventive maintenance activities accurately and on time.
- Record completed preventive maintenance work and maintain accurate maintenance documentation.
- Document outstanding work and important technical information in the occurrence or engineering logbook to ensure effective handover to the next engineer or technician.
- Monitor and track maintenance requests to ensure timely completion and appropriate follow-up.
Spare Parts & Inventory
- Identify required spare parts and materials and assist with sourcing and ordering them when necessary.
- Maintain appropriate stock levels of frequently used maintenance materials and spare parts.
- Ensure all stock movements, usage, receipts, and issues are accurately tracked and recorded.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Follow all hotel health and safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Wear and correctly use the required personal protective equipment (PPE) when carrying out maintenance activities.
- Follow safe working procedures and immediately report unsafe conditions, hazards, accidents, or equipment defects.
- Support the proper operation and maintenance of Fire Life Safety systems and other safety-related equipment.
- Monitor and supervise contractors carrying out maintenance, repair, renovation, or construction activities within the hotel.
- Ensure contractors comply with hotel safety requirements, work procedures, quality standards, and agreed scope of work.
- Monitor completed contractor work and report quality or safety concerns to the Engineering Manager or Chief Engineer.
Guest Service
- Demonstrate a professional, courteous, and guest-focused approach when carrying out maintenance activities.
- Minimize disruption to guests while completing repairs and maintenance work.
- Stay aware of guest satisfaction scores and feedback relating to hotel facilities and maintenance.
- Actively contribute to improving departmental performance and overall guest satisfaction.
Sustainability & Efficiency
- Support the hotel’s environmental and sustainability initiatives.
- Minimize unnecessary waste and ensure responsible use of materials and resources.
- Help optimize energy and water consumption by identifying leaks, inefficient equipment, unnecessary energy usage, and other opportunities for improvement.
Qualifications & Experience
- Certificate, NITEC, Higher NITEC, Diploma, vocational qualification, or equivalent training in Electrical, Mechanical, Building Services, Facilities Management, or a related technical discipline is preferred.
- Previous experience in hotel engineering, building maintenance, facilities management, or a similar technical environment is preferred.
- Practical knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, lighting, and general building maintenance.
- Basic knowledge of Fire Life Safety systems and safe working practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical problems and carry out minor repairs independently.
- Experience working with preventive maintenance schedules and work-order systems is an advantage.
Working Requirements
- Ability to perform physically demanding maintenance duties, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, and working with tools and equipment.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays according to operational requirements.
- Willingness to respond to urgent maintenance situations when required.
- Ability to work safely in plant rooms, kitchens, guest areas, back-of-house areas, and other operational environments.
