The posting

WorldQuant develops and deploys systematic financial strategies across a broad range of asset classes and global markets. We seek to produce high-quality predictive signals (alphas) through our proprietary research platform to employ financial strategies focused on market inefficiencies. Our teams work collaboratively to drive the production of alphas and financial strategies – the foundation of a balanced, global investment platform.

Technologists at WorldQuant research, design, code, test and deploy projects while working collaboratively with researchers and portfolio managers. Our environment is relaxed yet intellectually driven. We seek people who think in code and are motivated by being around like-minded people.

WorldQuant is built on a culture that pairs academic sensibility with accountability for results. Employees are encouraged to think openly about problems, balancing intellectualism and practicality. Excellent ideas come from anyone, anywhere. Employees are encouraged to challenge conventional thinking and possess an attitude of continuous improvement.

Our goal is to hire the best and the brightest. We value intellectual horsepower first and foremost, and people who demonstrate an outstanding talent. There is no roadmap to future success, so we need people who can help us build it.

The Role: WorldQuant is seeking a Lead Engineer to join our market data platform team. This is a senior individual-contributor role focused on the design and development of a high-performance C++ platform that processes tick data across a broad range of asset classes and global markets. You will lead projects from a technical perspective — owning design, implementation, and documentation — while working independently and mentoring fellow engineers. The responsibilities for this role will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Lead projects from a technical perspective, owning the design, implementation, and delivery of complex components within our C++ market data platform.
  • Design and build high-performance systems that ingest and process tick data across multiple asset classes and global markets.
  • Produce clear, thorough technical documentation for designs, systems, and workflows.
  • Optimize existing systems for reliability, scalability, performance, and maintainability.
  • Mentor fellow engineers through code review, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing.
  • Champion software development best practices, including testing, code quality, and maintainable design.
  • Communicate technical decisions and trade-offs clearly and effectively.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Extensive experience developing and maintaining large C++ codebases, including modern C++ (C++17/20/23).
  • Proficiency with Python for scripting and automation.
  • Experience with distributed computing and network programming.
  • Hands-on experience with orchestration and cloud technologies such as Airflow, Slurm, Kubernetes, and GCP.
  • Strong knowledge of Unix/Linux fundamentals.
  • Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms.
  • Experience leading projects from a technical perspective and mentoring other engineers.
  • Strong understanding of software development best practices and the software development life cycle (SDLC).
  • Strong English language communication skills, both written and verbal.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
