About the Role

A global financial services and market infrastructure organisation is seeking an experienced Lead Platform Engineer to join its Platform Engineering team.

The role will lead the design, development and operation of a highly resilient hybrid technology platform spanning Linux, Kubernetes,on-premises infrastructure and public cloud environments.

You will work closely with engineering, SRE, network,security and application teams to deliver scalable, secure and high-performanceinfrastructure supporting critical business systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical lead and senior escalation point for the hybrid platform across Linux, Kubernetes, on-premises and public cloud environments.
  • Lead the design and delivery of complex infrastructure projects and contribute to the long-term platform technology roadmap.
  • Architect and evolve Kubernetes and container platforms across on-premises, bare-metal and cloud environments.
  • Design and implement cloud infrastructure, primarily on AWS, with exposure to other major cloud platforms.
  • Establish and improve Infrastructure-as-Code and configuration management standards using tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, Ansible or SaltStack.
  • Design and enhance CI/CD and GitOps processes for infrastructure and application deployments.
  • Drive automation initiatives to improve operational efficiency, reliability and consistency.
  • Develop and improve monitoring, logging and observability capabilities across the platform.
  • Lead technical discussions and architectural decisions across cross-functional infrastructure programmes.
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to engineering standards, design reviews and technical best practices.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and make recommendations for platform improvements.
  • Work with development, SRE, network and security teams on performance optimisation, capacity planning, system hardening and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience in Linux systems, infrastructure or platform engineering within a large-scale enterprise environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux systems, internals, performance tuning and troubleshooting, preferably with RHEL or similar distributions.
  • Hands-on experience designing, deploying and operating Kubernetes at scale, across on-premises/bare-metal and/or cloud environments.
  • Strong experience with AWS and a good understanding of hybrid cloud architecture.
  • Strong experience with Infrastructure-as-Code and configuration management, including Terraform, Pulumi, Ansible, SaltStack or similar technologies.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering practices, including version control, testing and software design.
  • Proficiency in at least two of the following: Python, Go, C, C++ or Bash.
  • Experience with CI/CD and GitOps technologies such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Argo CD or similar.
  • Good understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS and load balancing.
  • Good knowledge of security principles including RBAC, TLS, secrets management and system hardening.
  • Experience with observability technologies such as Prometheus, Grafana, Loki or OpenTelemetry.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex technical projects and working across multiple technology teams.
  • Experience in performance tuning and capacity planning within business-critical or latency-sensitive environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured approach to evaluating technology solutions.
  • Strong attention to quality, reliability and technical detail.
