The posting

We are seeking a proactive, detail-oriented, and future-forward library officer to manage and enhance day-to-day operations within a dynamic school environment. This role supports core library functions while contributing to process improvement, digital outreach, and technology-enabled learning resources.

Responsibilities:

1. Library Operations

  • Support daily library operations, including the checking in/out, reservation and loan tracking of library materials.
  • Maintain and upkeep physical and digital resources, including cataloguing, shelving, stock-taking and processing of new arrivals in accordance with library processes and policies.
  • Oversee the library space to ensure that it remains clean, welcoming, organised and conducive for reading and learning.
  • Assist in maintaining an engaging collection of library resources that caters to the interests and needs of students.

2. User Support & Student Engagement

  • Serve as a primary contact for library-related enquiries from students and staff.
  • Assist users accurately and efficiently in navigating the library catalogue, digital subscriptions and online resources.
  • Engage students positively and build rapport with them to encourage meaningful use of library resources and services.
  • Manage student behaviour appropriately and tactfully to maintain a conducive and respectful library environment.

3. Reading Promotion, Outreach & Communications

  • Support school-wide literacy initiatives, book weeks, author visits and other reading promotion activities.
  • Curate creative and attractive book displays, exhibitions and reading campaigns to spark students' interest in reading.
  • Contribute ideas and activities that promote a positive reading culture and encourage students to explore a wider range of books and genres.
  • Coordinate communications and leverage digital and AI-assisted tools to develop engaging promotional materials and content using platforms such as Canva.
  • Utilise social media and other digital platforms where appropriate to promote library resources, programmes and reading initiatives to students.
  • Contribute to collection curation and continuous innovation in the promotion of reading and library engagement.

4. Strategic Library Improvement & Digitalisation

  • Implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and service quality for students and staff.
  • Support library digitalisation, media technologies and evolving self-service practices.
  • Explore and adopt appropriate digital tools and technologies to enhance library services, learning resources and student engagement.

Requirements:

  • A Diploma in any discipline.
  • A strong interest in books and reading, with a passion for encouraging young people to develop good reading habits.
  • Creative and resourceful, with an ability to develop engaging book displays, reading promotions and library activities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and build rapport with students of different backgrounds and personalities.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms with an ability to use these platforms to promote library resources and reading initiatives to the younger generation.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, adaptable, and digitally confident (e.g., Canva, Google Workspace, Google Gemini, NotebookLM, etc)
  • Experience working in a school or public library environment is advantageous.
