Role purpose
Maintain the availability and reliabilityof client CCTV, access control and supporting server systems through preventivemaintenance and corrective fault resolution. Diagnose faults across devices, networks, applications, SQL databases and recording storage; restore servicesafely, verify recovery and maintain complete service records.
Key responsibilities
Preventive maintenance
· Maintain a rolling preventivemaintenance schedule at least three months ahead. Obtain Technical Managerapproval, coordinate client access and manpower, and prepare approvedchecklists, tools and spares before each visit.
· Inspect and test cameras, NVRs,readers, controllers, locks and associated cabling and power supplies. Verifycamera views, recording, playback, door events and authorised releasefunctions; record defects and follow-up actions.
· Check server and applicationhealth, SQL service status, storage capacity, recording retention, backupresults and system alarms. Carry out approved housekeeping, updates andrecovery checks within agreed maintenance windows.
Corrective maintenance
· Receive and log fault calls, establish the affected services and business impact, and perform remote or sitediagnostics within the applicable service level agreement. Notify the TechnicalManager promptly of outages, recording loss, unsafe door operation or faultsrequiring escalation.
· Isolate the fault, implement anauthorised repair or temporary recovery, and coordinate additional engineers orvendor support. Record outstanding risks, verify affected functions afterrestoration and monitor for recurrence before closure.
Key responsibilities continued
System troubleshooting
· Use a structured diagnosticprocess: confirm symptoms, review recent changes and logs, trace dependencies, test likely causes, and record evidence. Distinguish the root cause fromsymptoms and identify whether the fault arises from equipment, power, cabling, connectivity, configuration, software or capacity.
· CCTV and recorders: diagnosecamera connectivity, PoE supply, image quality, video streams, NVRconfiguration and disk faults, missing recordings, playback failures andretention gaps. Verify restored recording and retrieval for the affectedchannels.
· Access control: diagnose readerand controller communications, lock and power faults, door contacts, exitdevices, controller synchronisation and access events. Test authorised accessand applicable emergency release interfaces with the responsible site personnel.
· Networks: troubleshoot IPaddressing, VLANs, switches, link errors, packet loss, bandwidth, DNS and timesynchronisation affecting security systems. Coordinate changes toclient-managed infrastructure with the authorised IT team.
· Management servers: diagnoseoperating system and hardware health, application services, licensing, authentication, certificates, CPU and memory usage, and client-servercommunications. Apply approved recovery actions and validate applicationoperation.
· SQL servers: investigateservice and connection failures, database availability, disk and transactionlog growth, failed jobs or backups, and performance issues using authoriseddiagnostic tools. Coordinate database repair, tuning or recovery with the TechnicalManager, vendor or database specialist.
· Archiver and storage servers:diagnose recording services, stream ingestion, disk and RAID health, storageconnectivity, capacity and write performance. Confirm recording continuity, retention settings and playback; flag data loss and degraded redundancypromptly.
Client support and service records
· Act as the primary technicalcontact for assigned sites. Maintain familiarity with system architecture, configurations, asset lists, maintenance history and contract scope; coordinatetechnicians and peer engineers when additional support is needed.
· Prepare service reports withsymptoms, findings, work performed, parts used, downtime, test evidence andoutstanding actions. Submit reports to the Technical Manager for vetting beforeissue to the client and formal sign-off. Track recurring faults and recommendcorrective improvements.
Safety and limits of authority
· Follow approved siteprocedures, risk controls and access requirements. Use suitable PPE and tools;undertake controlled tasks only when trained and authorised. Report hazards andstop unsafe work.
· Obtain approval beforedisruptive restarts, shutdowns, firmware or software changes, access permissionchanges, database recovery or storage reconfiguration. Confirm backups, arecovery plan and the maintenance window before approved disruptive work. Preservefootage, event records and credentials; do not delete or alter production datato clear a fault without explicit authorisation.
· Escalate unresolved orhigh-impact incidents to the Technical Manager, who determines severity andspecialist support. Obtain approval for purchases, variations and work outsidecontract scope. Keep the client informed of service impact and restoration progress.
Qualifications and experience
Essential
· Higher Nitec, diploma orequivalent technical qualification in electrical, electronics, informationtechnology, networking or a related discipline; equivalent relevant practicalexperience may be considered.
· At least three years ofrelevant maintenance and troubleshooting experience in CCTV and access controlsystems, including hands-on diagnosis of NVRs and supporting servers.
· Able to troubleshootindependently within approved procedures, interpret wiring and networkdiagrams, use diagnostic tools, analyse logs and explain findings. Demonstratepractical understanding of Windows server administration, IP networking, SQLservice dependencies and recording storage.
· Able to plan preventive work, prioritise fault calls, maintain accurate records and communicate clearly withclients, technicians, vendors and the Technical Manager. Willing to participatein the rotating standby roster.
Preferred
· Experience with enterprisevideo management and access control platforms such as Genetec, Milestone,Gallagher or comparable systems, as well as IP cameras and NVRs from commonmanufacturers.
· Relevant manufacturercertification, networking or server training; experience with virtualisation,RAID or network storage, backup recovery and redundancy or failover testing.
· Relevant site safety trainingand a driving licence suitable for assigned company vehicles.
Working arrangements
Work at assigned client sites, withauthorised remote support. Participate in a rotating 24/7 standby roster covering after-office hours, weekends and public holidays, and attend planned maintenance windows. Equipment handling and work at height require appropriate controls. Employment terms and the approved roster govern working hours,call-outs and overtime.
Performance expectations
· Preventive maintenance:maintain an approved three-month rolling schedule and complete visits andchecks by contractual due dates. Track deferred work, reasons and approvedrescheduling.
· Corrective maintenance: meetthe applicable acknowledgement, attendance and restoration targets. Measureperformance through incident timestamps and service reports; escalateanticipated breaches promptly.
· Fault resolution quality:verify recovery through documented functional tests. Track reopened tickets andrecurring faults; complete root-cause analysis and agreed follow-up actions formajor or repeated incidents.
· Reporting and closure: submitcomplete reports within agreed deadlines, obtain Technical Manager reviewbefore client issue, and track client sign-off and outstanding defects toclosure.
· System health and conduct:report recording gaps, storage risks, backup failures and degraded redundancywhen found. Follow approved change and safety procedures and complete assignedcompetency development.
The Technical Manager agreescontract-specific targets and reviews the supporting maintenance and incidentrecords.
