Member of Technical Staff (Equipment) is responsible for end-to-end ownership of manufacturing equipment performance and strategy, enabling high-volume, high-yield, and cost-efficient production. This role provides technical leadership, drives cross-functional alignment, and leads initiatives to improve equipment capability, reliability, and scalability across operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and drive equipment performance at a system level, including uptime, throughput, yield, OEE, and cost of ownership (CoO)
- Lead tool strategy and lifecycle management, including selection, specification, benchmarking, and capacity planning
- Drive and approve equipment installation, qualification, and release to production (IQ/OQ/PQ), ensuring robustness and scalability
- Lead complex troubleshooting and structured root cause analysis (8D/DMAIC) for major excursions, implementing permanent systemic fixes
- Architect and deploy advanced maintenance strategies (predictive, condition-based, FDC/analytics-driven) to minimize downtime
- Partner with process and manufacturing teams to co-optimize equipment and process capability (Cp/Cpk), yield, and cycle time
- Drive site-wide or multi-line continuous improvement programs, including OEE uplift, defect reduction, automation, and poka-yoke
- Act as technical authority interfacing with equipment vendors on design improvements, upgrades, and long-term reliability issues
- Lead risk assessments (FMEA), reliability engineering, and standardization across tools and platforms
- Develop and enforce engineering standards, SOPs, and best practices, and mentor junior engineers
- Support and lead response during production escalations, ramp-ups, and capacity expansions
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Materials, or related field)
- Extensive experience in high-volume manufacturing environments (e.g., semiconductor, advanced packaging, electronics)
- Proven track record of owning equipment performance and driving measurable improvements (OEE, yield, CoO)
- Deep hands-on expertise in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control systems, with ability to troubleshoot complex, multi-factor issues
- Strong experience with structured problem-solving methodologies (8D, DMAIC, RCA, FMEA)
- Familiarity with data-driven engineering tools (SPC, DOE, FDC, data analytics platforms, Jump)
- Experience working with equipment vendors and leading cross-functional technical initiatives
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects, influence stakeholders, and mentor teams
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-ownership manufacturing environment
- Exposure to SECS/GEM, PLC programming, or scripting (SQL, Python etc)
- Background in advanced packaging equipment (preferably in Recon)
