Role Summary
We are looking for an L1 Network Engineer to join our Network Operations team. The role will monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot our network infrastructure, including Aruba and Cisco switching, Check Point firewalls, and A10 load balancers. The role involves regular travel to our data centers and client offices for on-site support, hardware work, and incident resolution.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Network Monitoring and Incident Management
- Monitor network health, device availability and link utilization using NMS and alerting tools and respond to alerts within defined SLAs.
- Perform first-level troubleshooting of LAN, WAN, and connectivity issues, and escalate unresolved incidents to L2/L3 teams with complete diagnostic details.
- Perform basic configuration tasks such as, but not limited to, VLAN assignment, port enable/disable, access port configuration, and interface description updates.
- Troubleshoot port-level issues, including, but not limited to, link flaps, speed/duplex mismatches, errors, and PoE problems.
- Check MAC address tables, ARP entries, dot1x and interface status to isolate connectivity faults.
- Support switch replacements, IOS/firmware upgrades, and configuration backups under L2 guidance.
- Monitor firewall health, cluster status and logs using SmartConsole / SmartView.
- Perform log analysis to identify blocked traffic and support rule/traffic flow verification for connectivity issues.
- Assist L2 teams with policy installation, rule change validation and VPN tunnel status checks.
- Monitor virtual servers, service groups and real server health status.
- Assist in SSL certificate expiry tracking and escalate load balancing issues to L2.
- Travel to data centers and client’s offices for device installation, rack and stack, cabling, tracing, patching and hardware replacement (RMA).
- Perform physical checks, including LED status, power supply, cable integrity and labelling.
- Prepare daily and weekly health check and incident reports.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience in network operations or a NOC environment.
- Hands-on exposure to Aruba and/or Cisco switches (CLI and GUI).
- Working knowledge of Check Point firewalls (SmartConsole, logs, basic policy understanding).
- Basic understanding of A10 load balancers or similar ADC platforms (F5, Citrix NetScaler).
- Good understanding of networking fundamentals: OSI/TCP-IP model, VLANs, Dot1x, STP, subnetting, routing basics (static, OSPF, BGP), DHCP, DNS and NAT.
- Familiarity with troubleshooting tools such as ping, traceroute and packet capture (Wireshark).
- Experience with ITSM ticketing tools and following SLA-driven processes.
